Submitted by Floydm on November 18, 2008 - 8:34pm New Server Issues: REPORT HEREHey hey! If you are seeing this, you've made it to our shiny new server. Please report any issues you experience as comments to this thread.

Congratulations!
Hi, Floyd.
The new site seems to be working well.
One issue, which may not have an easy fix, is that links to nodes in the old site embedded in messages don't work, since the URL has changed. Or will you be changing the URL back to the old one?
David
Yes, the DNS has been
Yes, the DNS has been updated, so by morning www.thefreshloaf.com should point to this machine too.
New server
Yes it really is fast & I like the typeface for the title. Also like that you seem to have got rid of those ?scoring thingies at the bottom right of each post - never did understand what they were for. The only thing is, the "search" button refers back to the old site. Thanks for all your hard work, Floyd.
Patsy
The old site (www.thefreshloaf.com)
The old site (www.thefreshloaf.com) should point to the new machine by morning.
The scoring thing was a hack I put in. I think the abuse module plus another one I intend to install called "I love it" will do the same thing but better.
I guess it isn't morning yet.
I guess it isn't morning yet. I'm still seeing this message:
But otherwise, everything seems good and it appears to be all here, Floyd.
One question, will you be replacing the "my recent posts" in the recent posts section? I hope so! I really liked it.
-Elizabeth
edit: never mind!! I found the "my recent posts" under the track tab in "my account". Thanks, Floyd!
flash DNS cache
You may need to quit your browser and relaunch it or, occasionally, reboot to pick up the name change. I quit my browser last night and put my computer to sleep. This morning my machine has picked up the change.
Just closed the browser and
Just closed the browser and relaunched it. No luck. If the name change doesn't kick in soon, I guess I may have to reboot too.

You can sometimes just clear the cache very simply by holding down the shift key when you click the refresh button
Silly me. I forgot to clear
Silly me. I forgot to clear the cache. But I have reloaded http://www.thefreshloaf.com/ while holding down the shift key to make sure it wasn't loading an old version of the page. That didn't work.
And I just cleared the cache by going to "tools - clear private data" in Firefox. I even fired up IE to see if it was a Firefox issue. Nope. I guess I'll have to try rebooting the computer.
-Elizabeth
At work
I'm at work now and the DNS is outdated here too. So it is still spreading. Give it time.
DNS not browser...
DNS should be system-level. Both your web browser and email program need DNS. Neither should be caching DNS results for more than a few minutes at most.
Hence DNS caching should be flushed by
- restarting your computer (probably just by putting it to sleep and waking it up).
- restarting your router! (If you have one.)
However, its possible that your service provider (or whoever does your DNS - OpenDNS is good, and I'm using it now) is going to have DNS caching that you can't do anything about flushing - for that you just have to be patient.

I seem to be having a problem
I seem to be having a problem with images from my server, Floyd. My webhost disallows hotlinking of images but I can over-ride it with .htaccess. This is what I've put in my .htaccess but the images are still not showing up on my portion of the Freshloaf blog.
This is what I had before (and it worked):
Clearly, I know just enough about .htaccess to get me in trouble. Any ideas how to fix this?
-Elizabeth
Rewrite rule
I'd leave the www.thefreshloaf.com rules in there too. I'm guessing that even though you are seeing the referrer as coming from tfl.thefreshloaf.com, your server was already picking up www.thefreshloaf.com. Maybe?
I've left both in the
I've left both in the htaccess file, Floyd. There was no difficulty with the images before. I'll try closing the browser and opening it again to see if that resolves the issue. (Redirect isn't working yet for me either)
Elizabeth, (running WinXP, Firefox 2.0.0.18)
edit: nope, closing and re-opening didn't work. Rats. Back to the drawing board....
Fixed the htaccess problem
Excuse me for replying to myself. I've fixed it! (Duh... I uploaded the .htaccess file into the wrong folder) The images are now loading here.

new site
Wow, really fast, even on my work computer with all the filters, etc. IE6.
Pictures load very quickly and links are very fast, also.
Good job, Floyd!!!!!!!!!!!
Submit now Save?
Floyd,
I really appreciate the speed of the new server. The old one always made me wonder if I needed a defrag of my hard drive. Also, the input box is bigger! Or my eyes getting more near-sighted? The font also is more Courier-like than the old input box. And the font is different after Preview. I guess a lot has changed!
Question: Do I take it correctly that the Save button has replaced Submit? When I first saw it I thought it wasn't going to submit, but Save-it-for-later, so to speak. Once you know, it's OK, of course.
Thanks,
Soundman (David)
Yes, I guess so (that "Save"
Yes, I guess so (that "Save" has replaced "Submit"). I hadn't noticed that.
"Comment viewing options"
Floyd,
I'm not sure if this was different on the old server. The default settings (as far as I was concerned, since I never set anything on these back then) were Threaded list expanded, Date oldest first, and 300 comments per page.
I don't mind resetting these to my preferences, but it would be more intuitive if the drop-downs shown reflected the currently saved settings of the user. That way I'd know what I've got and be better able to figure out what I want to change to. Just a thought.
Soundman (David)
Good catch. I bumped the
Good catch. I bumped the comments back up to 300, threaded expanded, oldest first.
It would be nice if the menu reflected current settings. I'm not sure if it does that or not.
Not getting email alerts
Hey Floyd,
I had no idea you responded to my post, above. No email alert. OMG, I may be missing some really IMPORTANT email messages! What's up? ;-)
OK, a little hysterical, but they are important.
So I guess I'm thanking you here instead of on the other thread, for fueling my addiction.
Thanks for an awesome site!
Soundman (David)
OK, so all my settings
OK, it seems all my settings from the old server got lost on the new. I've selected some Enables, and we'll see if I get more or fewer alerts than before.
I'm not sure what the old server's defaults were, 'cause I just accepted 'em as they were, and they were fine with me.
UnClick the Panic Button.
Soundman (David)
still forwarding
I might be doing something wrong, but I opened the browser and still got the forwarding message. Since I'm on the west coast, it can't get much more mornignthan this unless we go to Hawaii.
I think this is all great, just wanted to let you know what I see. Thank you Floyd for all you do, I know this is not your "real" job, but what a terrific job you do. This site is so much fun.
Marni
It may take a while. As I
It may take a while. As I mentioned on a previous comment, from home this morning www.thefreshloaf.com resolves correctly. At work, it does not yet. It just takes a little while for all computers to pick up on the change of address.
After rebooting and cache
After rebooting and cache emptying, the thefreshloaf.com still is not resolving. I guess it has to do with our server. Perhaps it's like bread dough and it doesn't want to resolve when the weather is cold. ;-)

edit: ooops, replied to the wrong part of the thread. Sorry about that.
Where's the gallery?
I'm not seeing a gallery link. Has this feature gone the way of the dodo?
karladiane
Heh. The gallery module
Heh. The gallery module isn't stable enough for this version of Drupal to use it yet. I haven't deleted any of the image files though, so I may be able to restore it when the code is ready. The other possibility is we find a newer, better gallery.
not certain
but I had to clean out all my files but I did some more clean up and I flushed my dns. It seems to be working now.
"my recent posts" gone?
There used to be a choice of "recent posts" or "my recent posts," where you could check to see replies to posts you've made. Very handy but it seems to have disappeared in new format. Please bring it back! Thanks, SC
"my recent posts" is in "my account"
SC, "my recent posts" is located via the track tab in "my account".
You can access it this way too:
http://tfl.thefreshloaf.com/user/yourloginname/trackHaving said that, it was handy being able to access it via a tab on the "recent posts" link. Is there a way of showing the link to "my recent posts" on the sidebar, Floyd?

notification
Hi Floyd,
Say, I used to get notified when any thread that I had posted to had a post added to it. That no longer happens. I've gone to the "notification settings" section and enabled all that there seems to be to enable and yet I get no notifications. Am I missing something?
Thanks,
:-Paul
Notifications
Thank you. The notifications hadn't run yet.
They should have just sent. Did you get them?
Sorry I didn't reply sooner.
Sorry I didn't reply sooner. Yes, I got a LARGE file of notifications.
Actually, I only got that one
Actually, I only got that one notification. I no longer get notifications when folks post to threads that I have posted to. I used to get those notifications before the upgrade. I'm thinking that it must just be me since no one else is mentioning it. Since I've enabled all the notification settings in my account i don't see what else I can do. I'm stumped myself...
:-Paul
No you are not alone
Paul,
I haven't gotten any notifications since the new server either.

Pasting a word doc
Floyd,
I was trying to paste a word doc today into the text box and it was a mess of formatting text. This was a copy of a PDF that I converted to a word doc. I have done that in the past without issue. I'll clip it below here.

Word down
Thanks, Eric. I think I fixed this. Give it another whirl.
I know many people will try to do this, but I would urge you (and everyone else) in the strongest way to not paste formatted text directly out of Word onto any webpage and expect to get happy results. The internet hates it, or, actually, Microsoft hates doing things in a way that would encourage people to potentially use non-Microsoft software so they go out of their way to do things in non-standard ways that break everything else. This makes hapless programmers like myself spend hours fixing the messes they create rather than doing anything productive.
Open Office has gotten very nice and I use Google Docs, though for internet authoring all you need is NotePad on a PC or Stickies on a Mac. And Firefox, of course.
Eric, try saving
Eric, try saving your Word doc in .txt format or in Notepad and see how it does......
Stripping out the Word cruft
It'd do better, but he is correct that the before the upgrade I was running a TinyMCE plugin that stripped most of that junk out of the submitted text. I think I turned it back on.
I'll try again. Will this
I'll try again. Will this work with a PDF? It looks like it took it as raw text but not the table.

MS Word
Yup, all MS products generate vast quantities of embedded MS propitiatory crud if you try to use them for web work. You are never going to get the formatting to transfer and remove the junk at the same time.
We do a lot of web work and, if you can't afford a program like Dreamweaver which is MS aware, the best way is to use an intermediate simple text editor, such as Notepad or the excellent TextPad. Copy and paste from Word into Notepad, then copy and paste from Notepad into your web page. Touch up the formatting as required.
If you are not sure, always take a look at the source HTML by clicking on "rich text editor". It should be clean and free from MS bloat code.
cannot "copy and paste" into
cannot "copy and paste" into the post area without removing popup blocker.
I clicked to allow the popups from thefreshloaf and now copying and pasting just a few words of text causes a popup. I do like that it isn't automatically including all links and styles that were in the original (usually, I'm copying and pasting a small excerpt, or someone's name) but is there not some way that we could copy and paste things directly into the comment window and it would be changed into simple text?
-Elizabeth
CTRL-V
When I used Ctrl-V to paste text, I got the pop-up. When I went to "edit" at the top of my browser and told it to paste, no pop-up and the text was placed.
MSWord has the most awful embedded codes that tag along and the only way to strip them out of the document is to save it as ASCII text - at least, this is what we have to do at my office.
Yes, Word introduces all
Yes, Word introduces all kinds of "gremlins" into your text, particularly when you are copying from Word and pasting into IE. Saving as ASCII Text first would work or I think using Firefox helps some. Still, the pop-up sounds annoying, and many people do use Word and IE, so I'll see if I can figure out how to get rid of that.
I still say "not using Word" is the best solution. It is a terrible program to use if the destination for your text is online. But I'm just curmudgeonly like that.
control+v triggers the popup
Unfortunately, it's not just a matter of "do not use word"; you'll also have to add "do not use 'control+v'". I use editpad (text editor) and Firefox. (I'm allergic to Word and IE ;-))
Using "control-v", I transferred the following quote from Floyd into editpad first then copied and pasted it into the comment window. A popup box appeared, telling me to paste (using "control-v") into the popup window. The text finally appeared:
Using Firefox "Edit > Paste", I copied from the same editpad and pasted this into the comment window. No popup.
But I invariably use keyboard commands for copy and paste. I try to use the mouse as little as possible.
Floyd, I can't tell you how happy I am that you typed the following as well:
For this last quote, I copied directly from the browser and pasted using Firefox's "Edit > Paste" No popup
I'll try to remember not to use control+v in this forum....
-Elizabeth
Interesting
Interesting, and weird. Copying and pasting from Word worked fine on my Mac. It isn't including any the funky Word formatting but I consider that successful. And definitely there is no problem pasting from a text editor.
I'll try it on Windows at the office tomorrow.
it didn't erase! Super!
I typed a reply and then my battery cut me off. When this happens, I loose my entire reply like it never happened. After I recharged, restarted and returned to my place, the reply was still there! Fantastic!

The tree icon is between "HTML" and the chain links on the taskbar of the comment window. It's pretty small so might not look like a tree.

Elizabeth, Question
I don't have a taskbar on my comment window (replies, blogs, etc.). What, if anything, did you do to get a taskbar added above your comment window?
Thanks,
Howard
You have to have Javascript
You have to have Javascript enabled for the editor to work. Otherwise, I'm not aware of a reason or browser it shouldn't work.
What platform/browser are you using?
Thanks for your response
I'm running XP, Internet Explorer browser and I checked my browser and it looks like Java Plug In 1.4.2_03 is loaded. Any thoughts or guidance on how I can ensure that I have the correct version of Javascript enabled?
Can't figure it out
I went to SunMicrosystems site and downloaded the latest version of Java and that didn't do it. One thing that has me puzzled is I wasn't having a problem with the toolbar with the old system, which begs the question, what's the difference between the old and new systems re: toolbar/Javascript?
It works with Foxfire but not with Internet.Explorer.
Floyd,
Charlene is running Foxfire and the new TFL system works fine including the toolbar and the tree link icon with Foxfire. I'm runing Microsoft's Internet Explorer and I don't get the toolbar. Both computers are running XP.
Howard
Thanks for the info. I'll
Thanks for the info. I'll try it in IE on Windows XP tomorrow and see if I have the same problem
What's different? It is more like "What's the same?" Upgraded content management system (CMS), upgraded editor, upgraded server... Very few things are unchanged. But hopefully I can track down what in particular is broken tomorrow. In the meantime, good to know that it works in Firefox.
Howard, try clicking on "rich
Howard, try clicking on "rich text editor" that is located below the comment window. When I disable "rich text editor" the taskbar disappears.

Thanks for your suggestion
I tried clicking on "rich text editor" but got no response, other than the letters turning blue. I must be missing a plug in or something.
Howard
same problem
I don't how it seemed to work when I put my pizza image in..everything looked different and I would click on the HTML...and it worked...now I have nothing...rich text editor turns blue..and I have no task bar...nothing happens..
This will be a real problem for me as I know very, very little about computors.
Sylvia
Sylvia, If you know please tell me your configurion
I'm having the same problems you're having. If you can please tell me what you're running so that I can let Floyd know that it isn't isolated to my computer/platform/browser:
Platform: Windows XP, Vista or other?
Browser: Microsoft Internet Explorer, Foxfire or other?
On my computer I'm running Windows XP with Internet Explorer browser and I am encountering the same problems you're experiencing.
My wife, Charlene, is running Windows XP using the Foxfire browser and she can bring up the new system with what appears to be complete funtionality re: toolbar and link icon.
Since my wife and I are both running Windows XP and the only difference is the browser, the problem, at least for me, apprears to be a compatibility problem between the new TFL host software and Microsoft's Internet Explorer browser. Floyd suggested checking to see if Javascript was activated and on my computer (Internet Explorer) it is enabled. Anyway, that's where I am right now. Hope this problem get fixed soon.
Howard
Holds
Holds--- you are still experiencing it? I was running into a problem on IE 7 in XP this morning, but as far as I can tell it is fixed now.
It looks like you fixed the problem. Thank you very much!
Floyd,
I just checked and the toolbar and linkage icon are present on the screen. I haven't tried it yet but it looks great from where I'm sitting. I'll test it later this evening. Really appreciate your response and the fix. It's been a while since I've done any system integration work but I DO know you've got a plate full right now. Thanks for everything you do.
Howard
Same problem as Howard
I seem to have the same setup as Howard and I was having the same problem. But I now have the toolbar and can post pix if I want. Thanks.

how to delete an image
I just found out about being able to upload images here, when making the screenshot of the tree icon! (No fear, Floyd, I won't try to abuse the priviledge.) But I made an error and uploaded the wrong one first.
I cannot seem to find how to delete an image in the Posting Photos FAQ.
-Elizabeth
P.S. I SHOULD have put the screenshot into my flickr account but I forgot... Sorry about that.
Thanks
Thanks for uploading the screenshot. I may add that into the FAQ to help people find it.
It looks like there is a delete button in the file browser dialog. I've never tried it.
You're very welcome, Floyd.
You're very welcome, Floyd. As mentioned, I uploaded two. One is 600x150pixels and the other is in this thread. Please do use either image in the FAQ if you think it would be helpful.
I have looked all over the file browser page and have not been able to locate a delete button.

If I click on the Rich Text Editor all I get is an error on page message at the bottom of the window. Is that suppose to be the case or did I miss something in the post above? I have checked my java script and it seems to be working but I will not bet my life on it.

It is not supposed to be the case. It sounds like there is a bug.
I'll look into it tomorrow when I can get on a PC. I'm assuming you are on IE on Windows?
In the meantime, it is fine, people. Posting plain text works just as well 99% of the time. It actually makes copying and pasting image embedding code from Flickr or Photobucket easier.
Just to clarify, Floyd,
Just to clarify, Floyd, pasting plain text using "control+v" does NOT work. A popup appears.
To paste plain text without getting a popup only works when using "edit > paste" from the menu at the top of the browser.
-Elizabeth
Got it.
I got that. I didn't say "pasting", I said "posting", as in "typing." If folks type their comments in here regardless of the platform or browser, to the best of knowledge it works great.
As you've reported, copying and pasting on XP has issues, though others appear to be getting Javascript errors that completely prevent the rich-text editor from loading. I'll try to reproduce either or both problems tomorrow when I have access to a PC.
Oops. Sorry about that,
Oops. Sorry about that, Floyd. Also please excuse no reply until just now. I've been working fiendishly on non-bread things.
Too bad about the pasting thing. I'll just have to remember that "control+v" doesn't work for me in this forum (unless the copy/paste popup window appears).
Glad to hear that other more pressing issues were resolved.
-Elizabeth
It is all good!
Thanks for the response. I realize now that I haven't gotten all the little icons for publishing anything in my "comments" text. I didn't think abou it until just now when I jumped back from another website.
Thanks,
Eli

Word and IE
I fixed the javascript error, so most people should see the rich-text editor now.
This text is being copied and pasted from Microsoft Word. It doesn't have much fancy formatting in it, only a little bold and italics. That really is about all that should be copied and pasted under normal conditions.
The only issue I saw was that the editor double spaced the text on paste. That and a quick dialog came up asking "are you sure you want to allow this application to access your clipboard?" That is a security feature of IE meant to prevent javascript cross site scripting exploits (websites that steal what is on your clipboard and look for SSN or CC #s). I don't think there is anything I can do about that.
Changed 'tag' behaviour?
I think there might be a change in the way 'tags' within posts are handled.
A carriage return (new paragraph) now closes (all?) the tags.
This means that a multi line/paragraph quote (as a single 'quote' block) is not possible !!!
Its either new or else just something I've newly noticed ! /rolleyes !!
I think there might be a
I'm not sure, it may. I just clicked the "Quote" button, then copied and pasted your text. It put it all in one blockquote. I also tried pasting first, then selecting the text and clicking "Quote" to format it. That also worked. But there may be some different tag clean up going on now... As I said, this is a much different version of the text editor, so it has lots of new features and configurations I'm still wrapping my head around.
When in doubt, there is always the HTML button which will let you copy and paste or edit the raw HTML.

But if it works with the " button in the toolbar, then that's what I'll use !!
Incidentally Mac 10.4 & Firefox2.0.0.18 in case it doesn't show for you
BB vs HTML
You are using BBTags, I think? The [color] and
Hmmm... I'll take a look. I didn't even know that those tags worked!
Thanks for checking...
Sorry for not being more explicit.
The notes below the edit panel say "You can use BBCode tags in the text" and the "More information about formatting options" link below that gives a tutorial in using these tags!
By no means mission-critical, just strange!
What? RTM?
Strange... maybe I should read the manual some time!
I knew that the [img] and [link] BBTags worked, but I wasn't aware of the others. I always resort to the raw HTML because I've been doing HTML since there were only about 10 tags, back in the days of Mosaic and Netscape 1 ("Wow! Netscape 2 is going to support tables *and* backgrounds!"). It's my mother tongue.
Spell Check with Chrome
FYI I can't seem to get the spell check feature to work with Google Chrome. I kniw you are probably not to concerned about Chrome but it's fast and I suspect will be gaining market.
Eric
Chrome
Spell check on Chrome... That ranks right about up there with bookmarks on Safari for Windows or frames on Opera for the Wii. It would be cool if it worked, but I'm not going to lose any sleep over it.
(I'm just giving you a hard time... I'm actually quite looking forward to trying Chrome when a Mac version comes out.)
I was Expecting Gas
I was expecting gas on my post about chrome. Small attempt at humor in a sea of uncertainty. Chrome is lightning fast and has a small system footprint. My 22yo son has been nagging me to try it so I can stay up with hip and trendy.
Chrome
I'm sure if were a Windows user, I'd try Chrome too. As I said, I'm looking forward to playing with it when it comes out for Mac.
Thank you!
Hi Floyd, I wanted to say a hearty thanks for your work in maintaining (and improving) this site. I peek in here almost everyday, even though I am a rare poster, and can't even begin to list what i have learned from you all to make me a better baker. I love the upgrade and the new font, more readable for me which is great.
I have a request (if not too bold...), one function I miss in the new upgrade is the thing that was called something like "most recent posts" and it resided over on the left hand side of my screen. It listed hypertext subject lines of the most recent posts in the forum. i used to click that almost everyday as a glimpse into what people were chatting about. I don't see it anymore and was wondering if it would be back? If not, that's ok, this old dog will learn a new trick! Thanks again for your work and diligence in maintaining this wonderful resource. Happy holidays and happy baking!
chris
What Lindy said
Yeah, What Lindy said is correct: the "Recent posts" link is in the navigation for logged in users. If you are not logged in, you won't see it.
It's still there
cpmart, the "recent posts" link still shows up on the left side for me. After I've logged in.
There it is! thanks again
There it is! thanks again
Dailly Notifications
I no longer receive the notifications in my e-mail and really miss them. I tried changing the settings and enabling everything, but I still don't receive them. Thanks, ilovetodig
Notifications and subscriptions
Yeah, I'm not getting them either. The weird thing is that I can see some folks are getting emails. I'm not really sure why some are and some are not. It may be that the subscriptions to specific threads are working but the digests are not.
I'll keep tinkering and see if I can get it working again.
Floyd - email trouble
Sorry to bother you with this, but I'm still not getting email notifications. I think I've signed up properly, but maybe not. Any advice is appreciated.
Marni
It's not you - it's something
It's not you - it's something funky with the new upgrade - I too am getting email notifications when a blog I follow is updated but not when anyone comments.
Floyd hasnt been able to figure out what's going on with those (there's a couple other biggies that he knows are broken too) and he needs a bigger chunk of time to sit down and troubleshoot this one, like a solid day, which we just havent had with the holiday/birthday madness around here.
email
Thanks for letting me know. I also wondered if you got my email through LaughingStarfish? I hadn't heard back from you. Is it on the new server too?
Marni
I did not! Unfortunately,
I did not! Unfortunately, when we moved the server we didnt notice that the upgrade also broke my mailform!
I did get your order and mailed it, but if you used my mail form on my website within the last week, it was totally going nowhere! :( We fixed the problem last night when I realized the form was broken!
LaughingStarfish
I wanted to see about a watch. Feminine and pink for a 12 year girl. Sorry I'm asking here. I'll try again now on your site.
Marni
notifications
I believe I've got notifications working again, finally. Sorry it took me so long.
Heh... it looks like it is sending us all every post since the last time it was run, which is... 363 posts. Well, it should be normal sized after today. I hope.
Re: Notifications
Got them. Thanks.
Howard
Howard, where did your picture go?
Now only your holds99 is there.
Audra
Time traveler
It sure is working, Floyd. Thanks for fixing it and letting us know about the time traveling. When I clicked the first link in the notification mail, it too me to a 2006 post by JMMonkey.
Lots of good reading, inluding MiniO's sourdough facial formula! :-)
Alerts gone wild!
Hi Floyd,
I am starting to receive alerts to threads I haven't responded to or even read before. Sometimes I get alerts to threads someone has just started. Any ideas on what's causing this?
Thanks, as always,
Soundman (David)
notifications
I think that means you are subscribed to the notifications, which sends you an email digest of all the new site content once a day. Go to My Account >> Notification Settings and set it to disabled if you don't want to receive those.
re: comment viewing options
Yesterday, I noticed the "comment viewing options" section and chose "threaded list - collapsed". Today, when I hit the "newest posts" link in my profile section, I had no idea which ones were new. I know it's asking a lot but is there any way of putting the "new" tag on the title so it will show up when the list is collapsed?

Rich text editor
Hi, Floyd.
The text boxes for Subject and Comment seem to be working like the rich text editory, but the link to switch to the rich text editor is at the bottom of the Comment text box. However, when I click it, nothing happens.
The icons for quotes, adding a photo, etc. are not shown. It looks like the page never completes loading. The icons only show when I hit the "go back" arrow (or backspace key). The icons show for an instant before the previous page appears.
I'm using Win XP Pro and IE 7.
I hope this is clear. It's annoying, because I cannot load photos in messages.
David
Did you change something?
Did you change something? Change computers or switch or upgrade your browser or something? Because nothing has changed here. What platform and browser are you using?
Changes
Hee hee. I just went back to edit my message to include the platform info.
Nothing has changes. Hmmmm ... Lemme see what's up with the Macbook pro setup ....
The icons are there on the MBP (with Safari). It must be something about my Windows machine/Browser. Any ideas?
David
No, I'm not sure, but MS may
No, I'm not sure, but MS may have changed something. I'll check it out tomorrow when I'm in the office and have access to a PC (I've only got a Macbook at home).
Foxy or Chrome
David, why not try Firefox or Chrome with your Windoze machine? IE is the Swiss cheese of browsers...
I've been using Firefox for years; the rich text editor is loud and clear.
Woo hoo!
Hi, Lindy.
Thanks so much for your suggestion! I just installed Firefox. Wow! I think I should have done this a long time ago.
It solved my problem. And it loads web pages really, really fast.
I can't play with it now, as much as I'd like to. I gotta go mix some dough.
David
Congrats, David!
While you can't totally dump the IE bloatware, glad to hear you're now driving a sleek, fast, and much safer browser.
Happy New Year!
Lindy
Indent function does not work in final renderer
Using the rich text editor, there appears to be a difference between the rich editing renderer and the final renderer related to the indent function.
In this rich editor, this paragraph is indented italic.
I will bet that when I click [Save] the final version of the para above will not be indented!

pasting in IE
I am using IE on someone else's computer right now and when I go to paste I get a popup message "Do you want to allow this webpage to access your clipboard". If I say "no" then pasting cannot be done using cntrl+v OR by going to the edit tab on the top of the browser. If I say "yes", pasting can be done by using cntrl+v OR by going to the edit tab on the top of the browser. I'm happy to report that there is never an irritating pasting window that pops up automatically when cntrl+v is used for pasting (as occurs with Firefox on my computer).
I do not know if this "Do you want to allow this webpage to access your clipboard". popup message is a feature of this particular computer's security program or if it's something to do with IE. But I thought I'd report it anyway.
-Elizabeth
P.S. I went to edit this page to paste something else in and got the "Do you want to allow this webpage to access your clipboard" again. Is there a way that this can be avoided for the FreshLoaf site? This particular popup window appears to be an IE feature.
That is totally something
That is totally something specific to the computer, and has this website would have no effect on that. Likely the message comes up any time you try to copy-paste to anything in the browser for any website - since it has to do with some security setting on the browser/computer. You'll have to dig around in the browser security settings to see if there's an always allow for some sites setting if you dont want it to happen again, but there's nothing that can be done from the actual website's server side of things for that.
Not that specific
I get similar messages when I try to paste with Ctrl-V. I believe it relates to my "pop-up blocker."
Try disabling you pop-up blocking to test this. For me, it's not a problem to paste using a right mouse click then clicking on "paste."
David
Tried it a number of ways
David,
Thanks for your suggestion. After reading your post I tried the copy and paste funtion (copying a URL) with my security system (TrendMicro) turned off. I also tried the same test with the pop up blocker turned off. With the pop up blocker turned off it doesn't give a message but it also doesn't paste the URL to the Comment window. No luck either way.
Howard
EDIT: FWIW I haven't had a problem copying and pasteing to the Comment window/screen using HTML feature/editor on the tool bar, only with copying and pasting directly to the Comment screen/window.
no problems pasting into the "subject" window
I didn't have any difficulty pasting into the "subject" window when I was using IE on somebody else's computer. It was the "comment" window that gave me grief. I am back in Firefox now (where I can freely paste if I go to "edit - paste" but if I use "ctrl+v", I get a popup window and THEN I can use "ctrl+v", hit "insert" to finally get something pasted)
I hardly ever use IE on my own computer but I'll fire it up to see what settings I have on it. As I recall, I didn't have any difficulty copying and pasting in IE on this computer.
-Elizabeth
(Changing the settings on a borrowed computer's IE just doesn't seem right to me. I was even a bit leery about saying yes to allowing the pasting for that single page. But I've recommended the freshloaf site to them and they have already entered it in their favourite bookmarks. If this really is something to do with IE settings, let's just hope they don't want to do much copying and pasting if they start posting rather than just reading.)
Replying in IE7
Excuse me for appearing to reply to myself. I am now accessing the site via IE7 on my computer (WinXP). It looks like it might be a security feature on IE7. I JUST downloaded the latest security updates. I really don't remember seeing this window before (although it may well have been there; I hardly ever use IE).
The popup message is this:
I do have the popup blocker setting checked to "prevent most popups from appearing".
If I say "yes" to the popup message I can use "ctrl+v"; if I simply close the popup without choosing anything OR say no, I cannot paste anything into the window.
-Elizabeth
edit: I came back to edit this and freely copied and pasted "IE7" into the subject window. I tried copying and pasting "IE7" into the "comment" window and got the "do you want to allow" popup again. This time I said no. I cannot paste into this window now (unless I copy these contents, go back one page, hit reply again, try pasting the contents again, and choose "yes" when the popup appears again.)
Don't know if this is a feature of IE or if it's a feature of The Fresh Loaf software. Either way, I'm definitely not going to use IE to access this site. It's too much hassle!!
Replying in IE7
Just say YES. I get the same screen. Then hit CTRL-V again and it pastes into the window.
Best,
anna
The only problem I'm having
The only problem I'm having is getting the toolbar to appear so I can download a photo or two....or more! It probably is my Apple Computer and outdated Safari though. I'm pretty sure I have Java Script, but how do I check to see if it is enabled? Thank you
Enabling or disabling javascript in Safari
This is a mirror of the reply I just posted in the Need help with photo.... thread:
%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%
I just googled and found the following on Mr. Ed's Computer Help Forum
If it turns out that you do have javascript enabled on Safari, I wonder if downloading Firefox might be a possibility. I am pretty sure that Firefox is compatible with Mac and the toolbar is definitely visible in Firefox. And Firefox is free.
Hope that helps!
-Elizabeth
wow!!
this is SO fast!! i had been having problems logging on in the last 2 weeks. my username & password were consistently not recognized. now, this is lightening quick. and it works!! great news.
