Hobart C100 Mixer - Graveyard Restoration

Hi all. Picked up a Hobart C100. Hoping to keep it out of the scrap yard and get it back to working condition. I saw a few posts about the C100, but all the pictures are gone.

Take a look at the mixer in this video. "https://youtu.be/694Qyv_PikA

Long list of problems. So far, I have disassembled the planetary and transmission. I got it back working in all three speeds, so there is hope.

I see the majority of the parts I need are available on eBay, however I am not willing to pay those prices for old used parts. I know the mixer hasn't been made for some time. I'm hoping to fabricate the parts I need. Going into a shop this week to learn the metal lathe.

Also if I get it back working, I hope to make my own attachments and 5 qt bowl adapter kit using the N50 or KA bowl. I think this would make it more useful when not making large batches.

I am looking for help from other owners. Will have some questions on parts sizes and such, as I am missing some of the originals. Anyone out there have the same mixer?

Thanks

List of Problems

  • Oil dripping from planetary
  • Only first gear works. Gear select handle rotates freely in a complete circle. No resistance when rotating.
  • Bowl lift does not work. Seems disconnected.
  • Bowl lift handle not original. Poor remake, will need to be replaced/remade.
  • Power switch not original. Functions.
  • Left side bowl lock casting is bent (doesn’t engage).
  • Right side bowl lock casting is loose.
  • Rear/center bowl locking lip cast piece is broken (Bowl doesn’t lock down at rear tab)
  • Power cord and plug should be replaced.
  • Power cord may need stress reliever where it enters at the back of the motor.
  • Power switch plate missing one screw.
  • Drip Cup (style ring) missing one screw.
  • Bowl lift apron dented in several places and very scratched.
  • #1 Beater: Has weld repair. Well worn at connection point. Wobbles/rocks on agitator shaft. Shaft bore is worn oblong. Crazy loose.
  • #2 Beater: Has crack. Less worn than first beater but still wobbles. Crazy loose. Labeld: C10B
  • Dough J Hook: Some bore wear. Very loose on agitator shaft. Very loose. Labeled: C10E NSF 7716
  • Whisk: Missing two wires. Bent. Play on agitator shaft. Bore doesn’t look worn like the beaters. May be proper diameter and a good reference if agitator shaft must be remade. Loose. No label.
  • Agitator attachments may potentially work if agitators shaft is extended. There is a portion of the bore that does not make contact with the agitator shaft when installed. Extending the agitator shaft may increase contact of the surface area of the attachments bores, making them more rigid.
  • Agitators may not reach bottom of bowl. Hard to tell.
  • 10qt bowl: Small dent on very bottom. Rolled lip. Not labeled.
  • Agitator shaft:
  • Appears worn. Has rust. Lots of wear marks.
  • Agitator shaft pin. Worn down to next to nothing. Must be replaced

1. When you switch between gears, is it easy to locate the next gear? The handle has a very light detent that you can feel at each gear number, but it is a bit hard to tell if it is fully in gear as it feels very "light." Hopefully that makes sense. On the Hobart N50 Ives used you can clearly tell if you're in gear, the C100 not so much. I just want to check if that is normal.

2. What is the diameter of the attachment shaft? Mine is so worn, that it wore out the attachments, and they must be replaced.

I read on a nother post, that theirs was: "Agitator shaft size: 1.61cm (0.634 inch)"

Can anyone verify?

3. Does anyone know, is the attachment shaft pin tapered? I assume so. (Mine is broken)

4. With regards to the bowl lift tab:

A) What is the width of the tab?

B) What is gap between the bowl arm and the tab, or what is the height of the tab?

C) What is the depth of the tab on the underside?

5. When the bowl lock arms are in position and locking down the bowl, is it a snug fit? The one that is not bent is quite loose, and doesn't stay in place? I'm assuming it is worn.

Will be adding pictures as I go, once I figure out how to size them.
