ELECTROLUX STAND MIXER DLX2000

After reading about how fantastic the DLX was on this board I decided to buy one. The Stollen recipe really did it for me.

Well I managed, after a struggle, to buy one, they are not on sale in England. Now I have it there are no instructions on how to use the different attachments. I mean the mincer is easy, it's the metal tubular bit which is supposed to fitinside the bowl I am having problems with.

There are no instructions on how or where to fit it. I remember one member saying that she had the machine and it was great but was complicated to begin with. I know what she meant.

Is there a 'manual' for the mixer? It came with an official book which showed all the different parts and a couple of recipes but no clear descriptions on how to fit the different parts together.

Never mind I'll keep trying.

Try this:

You can download the user's guide in .pdf format.

I've just downloaded it and am printing it off. It is far more comprehensive than the booklet that came with the machine.

Finally, I may be able to use the machine. lol  you're a Star.

And there are various revisions on the list you are then offered...

So, now I know of three mixers in the UK!

What bits have you got?

BTW, the site advice (and shown in Quahtan's linked QuickTime video) to add the liquids (and maybe yeast) and run the mixer before adding the flour to the moving bowl seems to work well.

The dough hook, IMHO, starts to be worthwhile with doughs made with more than ~700g of flour - which is where a machine becomes worthwhile!

Flower,

I just checked on the video site Quahtan posted and it worked OK for me. It's the best how to video I know of and shows how to use all the accessories. Unless you are in a blocked environment you should be able to watch it.

As a rule I don't use my DLX for a small 1 loaf batch but you easily could. I started off using the roller but now I only use the hook and I think it's much more effective with any size batch up to 8 pounds.

I too had checked that Quahtan's link was working... (today and as posted)

... however, as I noted above - its a QuickTime movie, so, without (fairly up-to-date) QuickTime (properly) installed, there would be no chance of seeing the movie.

That'd be my guess at the most likely cause of the problem.

QuickTime is a free download for Mac or Windows (for the player, which is all that's needed).

http://www.apple.com/quicktime/

A second guess would be that Flower might be suffering extreme movie-download-slowness from using a dial-up link rather than broadband.

With those checked off, that leaves the next thing to check as over-zealous security settings somewhere - for which the standard advice is "speak to your system admin (or read your manuals)" !!!

And I too think that particular demo movie is (perhaps unintentionally) a great instructional resource.

Whoever said "a movie is worth a thousand diagrams" ...? :-)

Looking at the clip's page source, it's linked as

If you're trying to see it with a Mac, it can open with QuickTime *IF* you have Flip4Mac installed (flip4mac.com, free plug in for QT). I don't know what happens on a Windows PC, I assume Mindows media player handles Windows Media files OK.

OOPS! An overhasty leap to a conclusion on my part.

I didn't bother to think beyond that QT was showing the thing to me, and that QT might be using Flip4Mac, which, yes, I have installed, but isn't universally known/installed.

And, yes, on a Mac, not having Flip4Mac installed will lead to not seeing the thing.

Its much more common that a web page publisher would assume the ability to view a Windoze-specific format...

Thanks Rainbowz for giving a better answer than I did!

And that movie is worth installing Flip4Mac for, and F4M will doubtless be useful occasionally in future (without you even being aware of it!)

I can't remember the last time I couldn't get a PC to play a video, regardless of the format. Not withstanding the TV Ads, I would say the easier route to success in this case runs along Redmond Way. Hehehe

with the video and everything went automatically. ... It updates itself regularly.

I like the mixer, and the grater and mill look good too! But I have little machines that are light and easy to use that take up less space and work fine. I am in the market for a good mixer if it isn't too big.

I milled some whole wheat berries today to make the same roll dough but with 25% whole wheat flour swapped for white.
Some how the dough was not quite right as I had to add a fair bit more white flour to get a dough that I was able to handle, hmmm strange????
Any way I now see that I added 8 ounces of melted butter instead of 4 ounces,,,,,,  This is the results, the finished loaves and the crumb, it tastes wonderful and the texture is great..... :-))) phew.

Hmm, this thread keeps coming up, but the last post I see is the one from Qahtan, saying a post is now under two much butter. This time there should be two new posts from Flower, instead of this one post I have already seen.

If someone adds a post as a comment to another post, they don't show up at the bottom but under that previous post which could be near the top.

That makes perfect sense now. I was just skimming down to the end to look.
