Maltese - Hobza ta'San martin (St. Martin's sweet buns)

Ġewz, Lewż, Qastan, Tin, Kemm inħobbu lil San Martin.

Walnuts, Almonds, Chestnuts, Figs, How much I love St. Martin.

For 11/13/2022 (The feast day of San Martin.) I made

Hobza ta San Martin. (Saint Martin, sweet buns.)

For an extra added treat I also made:

Focaccine (Baby Focacca)

Both are relatively easy formulas to work with. The enriched sweet bun dough was quite soft. That caused a nipple to form on the tops due to over-zellus palm rolling. Other than that, easy for beginner bakers yet has impressive results formulas!

And inspired me to google St Martin’s Day. I assumed that the shape with the extra bit on top was traditional!

Ha! that is funny. I have to remember to use wet hands for the final shaping. I seem to recall having the same issue a few years ago with brioche buns. However, now my baking prowess has evolved to where I can deduce a solution. Smile...
