safe to use aluminum skillet for steam?

I am looking for a pan to use in the oven to make steam for baking. What I have is an old piece that was called "Club Aluminum". It is heavy and not non-stick. Don't have any cast iron. Does anyone think it is unsafe to use this because of what it is made of, don't want to cause any dangerous fumes or reaction in high heat. You all are so knowledgable here and I am learning so much.    Thanks.

I'm honestly not sure about

I'm honestly not sure about aluminum, but if you'd actually want to use the skillet and avoid ruining it, it's actually pretty cheap to pick up a basic cast iron skillet. I got a new one for about $20 and if you look around I'm sure you can find even better deals.

That being said, I can't think of any reason why the aluminum itself would be an issue, although depending on what kind of nonstick surface you might have problems. I'm sure someone around here has the right answer.

I was wrong, skillet is not non-stick

granniero  So sorry, my skillet is not non-stick, just plain, i edited my previous post. Thanks, gbramwell, for your advice.

Enamel works too

I salvaged the bottom of an old enamel broiler pan and use that exclusively for steaming. You might want to check out a local Goodwill store, or even yard sales, for someone's outcast.

What type of handle is on your skillet? Is it something you will want to use for other purposes?

planned to remove handle

granniero   Thanks, LindyD. I had planned to remove the handle but think I will just put this pan in the goodwill box and let it go.  The first and only time I tried the steam, I used an old cake pan, it did ok, I guess. Thanks, again for your help.
