Wedding Challah - Serving Size Advice?

Hi all! I have been asked to bake a wedding challah. The only parameter I have been given is that the challah must serve 12 people.

My usual challah is a little under 2 pounds and around 16" long. Will this feed 12, or should I double my recipe?

I've never been to a Jewish wedding before, so this is totally new to me. Any other advice on making a wedding challah would be appreciated. Thank you in advance!

Go for doubling the recipe!

That's what I was thinking too! I definitely don't want to leave the wedding party wanting for more, or worse, feeling really sad with a "too small" challah. I looked at other websites and some bakeries selling challah that is about as big as mine says it feeds up to 16 people, but that seemed stretching it to me to be honest! (But hey, what do I know!)

If it's a complete dinner, maybe 2 oz bread/rolls per person, on average.

3 oz per person if it's really good, or someone is hungry.

Teenagers, or pigs like me, could eat 4 oz as part of a regular meal.

Preparing for maximum, 12 x 4 oz = 48 oz,  or 3 pounds _after baking_.  That should let the teens get enough and ensure leftovers or a nice "buffer" just in case.

Copy copy! Thanks for the great breakdown. Sounds like doubling or at least doing 1.5 of my usual recipe would be adequate.

So I saw the post that doubling the usual recipe will get a nice big loaf.  Question: how much time does a larger loaf take?  My typical bake time is 29 minutes at 350 degrees for two loaves made with about 4.5 cups of flour (don't ask me how many grams - I've been using this recipe since before I knew how to weigh flour).
