Hello from NY

Hey all from upstate NY. Just really got into baking bread about 4 months ago because I saw a sourdough video on youtube. From there I have gotten a healthy and happy rye starter and usually make a couple loaves of sourdough a week. I also have done english muffins, pretzels, bagels, various buns, and bakers yeast leavened bread including beer bread and a good wonder bread style bread (don't judge too much lol)

Hello and Welcome!

You will find all kinds of help and interesting recipes here.  No judgement on the white bread, sometimes you just have to do what makes you happy.  Where are you in NY? I grew up near Saratoga.

I am about 30 minutes east of Saratoga :)

Being able to actually make something that satisfies the "I just want plain white bread like from the store" crowd, rather than push something at them that they'll just push right back, is a definite advantage. No use denying that it's what a lot of people want.

Wonder Bread style bread...how soft , fluffy and squishy do you want it . More than a challah bread?

...specifically Westchester. Slicing sandwich bread is by far the most popular thing I make -- our kids like the Japanese milkbread type that stays moist. Two loaves at a time (maybe I should invest in a longer pan!), it's gone quicker than any artisan bread except croissants at my house. I still sneak some sourdough starter in it to satisfy my flavor preference tho!

Hey cousin...LOL.  Most of the people I love are Weavers.  My mother is one...

My late husband's mother was one.  But we were not related at all...although his mother and my mother were from same area of Texas.  It was pretty surprising to us to learn of all that...then my brother who runs a lot of genealogy web sites found there were apparently Weavers in the same area our family had no knowledge of.

You should have seen the look of the county clerk when we went to get our marriage license.  LOL!   We were both gray haired by that time so they didn't give us too much trouble.

Go figure.  There are a lot of Weavers out there.

Yes, we certainly have "clans" just about everywhere! My heritage is mostly Western European, as are most with old trade names I suppose.
