Why are bread tins in the US less than 3" tall? Does everyone prefer stumpy loaves? I know Pullman pans are taller but I want a flared loaf.

Maybe because the 2¾" tall pan gives us that flared shape that tops out at ~4+" tall. Perfect size, like a Pullman loaf, to fit bologna and toasters. Or, maybe we make bologna and toasters to fit our commonly sized loaves.

to have the option of a taller loaf. I've not found anyone in the US who stocks deeper tins.

Yes, most loaf tins are not tall enough. I think that most of the companies that make loaf tins (and bannetons) are totally out of touch with what is actually required to make a decent sized and shaped loaf. Also the variation in size of the so called 2lb loaf tin is surprising.

I recently managed to pick up a nice tall (4") 2lb loaf off Ebay UK, made by a company called Eurotins. It is part number LT02A, EAN 5060315533056 and can also be found on Amazon UK.

Brand name Chicago. it measures 100 mm high x 90 mm wide x 250 mm long on top edge (220. mm  bottom length).  I thought it was an american brand but I’ve had it a while so not sure. just looked it up - chicagometallicbakeware.com and it looks like it is still available.

I think I might have found some on Amazon.co.uk - 41/2' deep and only $27 for 2 including shipping from the UK - unless they've made a mistake....
