Help with yeast starter on 5th day

I need help with the starter yeast recipe.  On the 4th day I reserve 1/4 of mixture and discard the rest.  On day 5 do I reserve 1/4 and discard the rest?

You should always discard most of the old starter before feeding it. This keeps it fresh and active. I don't know what kind of starter you are dealing with but I only work with wild yeast starters. If yours is commercial yeast based it may not react the same. Once the new starter is established well (about 2 weeks), you can keep it in the fridge and feed it once a week.
