Mold on Starter

Hello! I hope everyone is having a great day.

We recently had to leave for a week to go to North Carolina. For the first time, I put my 4 month old sourdough starter in the fridge. Came home and it looks alright but it formed  a thick, dry layer on top, and the very top of that had a tiny patch or two of mold. I scraped it out and threw the mold out since I can't give it  feed until morning. Is this normal? Do I need to throw my starter out with the mold?

and there's some salvageable starter then take some healthy starter off, thoroughly clean the jar and utensils and then give the starter a good feed or two. I've just had the same issue.
