Help

I am about to throw my bread machine down the stairs. I just asked it to make dough. It took and hour and a half to make a gloppy mess.

Pagnotta

1 2/3 C water

1/3 C Biga

1 1/4 tsp bread machine yeast

3 3/4 C ap flour

I got it out of the machine feeling like I was battling spiderman. I added a little flour until I could get it into a ball and put it in a linen lined colander. I am letting it sit for 2 hours. It rose pretty well after 1 hour but I thought I should leave it for 2. I then plan to shape it again and then let it rest before baking on a parchment on a flipped over cookie sheet with parchment. I plan to put butter on it before baking.

Passed the window test. Don't know what happened but sounds like a good save.

Let us know the outcome.

I was able to get a shape and am letting is rest again for 30 mins. It actually has a shape. I will take a couple more photos and post them.

It tastes good. I see the flour in some places did not get mixed in good. I will blame that on me trying to fight with it. Next time I will do it all by hand kneading. I don't have a mixer with a dough hook. Time to build up the hand and arm muscles LOL This is only my second loaf of bread. I do really like learning to make it. I have never really eaten other than cheap pre-sliced sold in a plastic bag from the grocery store bread. I have made a few quick bread mixes and raisin bread in the machine. I guess I need to find a good bakery to try real bread so I know what flavors to aim for.

Looks good and from the sound of it tastes good too. Enjoy!

Were you following a specific recipe that was in the manual or did you make your own recipe?

years .....is this  what we have to look forward to for everything :-)  Can't wait for  autonomous cars though.  We can sit in back of the car with our bread machine plugged in and make bread on the way to where ever we are gong - but it won't be to work:-)

At least you saved this one.  Good luck making bread.

Lechem BTW yes it did pass the window test quite well!!! The window was quite dirty and needed cleaning LOL dabrownman the thought of an auto driving cars bothers me the way things breakdown... Does it look like from the recipe that here was to much water? I just thought of somethings. I am using Beth Henspergers Bread Machine cookbook. A) all her recipes call for 1 tsp gluten. I don't have any so I omit. (less dry ingredient) B) She calls for bread flour for this recipe. Doesn't the bread flour absorb more or less water than ap? needing me to cut down a bit of the amount I use? If and I really think I do need to cut down on the water. The recipe is up in the top post the way I did it. If it is the water's fault then I won't threaten to throw the machine down the stairs LOL
