Newbie to baking and bread

Cincinnati, Ohio here I am new to making bread. I bought a bread machine in Nov. 2016 and got bit by the bug. The more I learn the more I want to just use the machine for quick breads and kneading. I just learned to roll out dough for cinnamon rolls. I was nervous but loved it. I made english muffins non sough-dough. I didn't know how much they would grow so I made them way to small. But they taste good. I have been reading and watching videos on anything and everything. I want to try french bread next.I am thinking I want to try artisan breads. The idea of putting the dough in a basket then stenciling and scoring it fascinates me. I will be hitting home depot for some unglazed tiles soon. Until then I read I could use the bottom of pan. I plan to use floured parchment paper.

And good luck! I suggest you start with something quite simple. There are many kinds of 'French' bread, but something with flour, water, salt and yeast only, and not too wet a dough, will help you get into the techniques of mixing and shaping the dough, and knowing when it is ready to bake.
