kitchenaid k5ss attachments

Hey all. I recently was given an old k5ss mixer withouth bowl and attachments. I purchased a bowl, dough hook and paddle, but both hook and paddle are over an inch from the bottom of the bowl. Could I have the wrong attachments or bowl? I'm not finding anything about people having this problem... Thanks in advance!

It sounds as if the paddle and dough hook are for a 4.5-quart mixer.

I have had my Kitchen Aid K5ss for over 30 years. It is a great mixer.  You can get the owners manual on line from Kitchen Aid. It will tell you this is a 5 quart stand lift up mixer. Make sure you read the manual for making bread. When I first started making bread, I used too high a speed (over 3) for kneading my bread dough and I broke the gearing after a year.  The manual warned me but I never read it.  It does sound like you have the wrong paddle size.  You can find used ones on EBay.  My paddle measures 7 1/4" from the top to the tip. The dough hook is a little shorter.  The wisk is the same as the paddle.  All of the attachments which connect to the take off gear are the same from mixer to mixer.  If this is an old one you may want to have it service. They can check by serial number. Good luck.
