Ankarsrum grain mill

Just got my new Ankarsrum Assistant Saturday, so far great!   I'm considering the grain mill attachment and wonder what your experiences are.  I'd be milling flour for home use only, up to 5 lbs of dough per bake, 1-3x per week.  If I'd repaired the KA I would have gotten a MockMill, but I'm done with KA.

Please advise me of any negatives, and what small, not-too-$$ mill you'd suggest instead if the Assistant attachment isn't as good as you think it should be.  Thanks!

Hi MontBaybaker,

I've had the Ankarsrum Grain Mill attachment for about 9 months.  It meets the purpose for which I purchased it - cracking rye grain.  It doesn't give me fine flour unless I regrind it.  For me that is okay since I have a NutriMill to do that.  For your purposes up to 15 lbs per week it will easily do that.  It has a screw like adjustment for fine to coarse but the output is much more coarse than my Nutrimill.  I have used it as my sole mill when I wintered in Galveston this year and the breads were just fine.  It was $167 from Pleasant Hill Grain where I bought my Ankarsum Assistant which I've been using for 6 years now.  It is a fine machine.

Good luck with yours and hope this has helped.

Regards,

Big Crusty

I considered it for my Ankarsrum and while I do love the meat grinder attachment and the others I have, I decided to get a Komo grain mill instead and I love it.
