grain storage - gallon capacity to pounds of grain?
Storage bucket capacity is given in gallons. Grain is purchased per pound.
QUESTION: How many pounds of grain will a one gallon container hold? Thanks.

The weight of one gallon of grain depends on the type of grain and the moisture content. Typically wheat at 13.5% moisture weighs 60 lbs./bushel which converts to 6.44 lbs./gallon.

And rye is 56 pounds per bushel. There are 9.3 US gallons in a bushel.
I figure that two five-gallon buckets will contain a 50 pound bag of whatever grain holds my fancy -- wheat, rye, emmer -- with enough slop at the end of the second bucket that I have time to score another 50 pound bag before the bucket runs dry,
I am sure you will get usable practical advice, but for the record (and having done a bit of work on silo storage in a previous life) there are entire mechanical engineering graduate school programs on this topic!

It takes 3 - 5 gallon buckets for 100lbs of grain. 33 lbs. of grain per bucket.
Looks like a 5 gallon bucket will be ample to store my 25 lb sack of wheat.
Yes, it should. I find that a 50-lb bag of grain fills about 1.5 5-gallon buckets.
