Bien Cuit Book

Just a heads up for the people who are addicted to bread books. I was looking very much forward to the release of this one and preordered and received it today. It has an exposed spine which does allow it to lay flat on a counter....however they have lacquered the page edges and for me that is a problem. I usually purchase from Amazon for the last 20 years and they have ALWAYS shipped in a box especially a book weighing 4lbs. This time it was shipped in a padded envelope...causing damage to the corners and actually lacquer flaking. It is sad when a cookbook has to be kept out of the kitchen. The book itself is quite nice with what appears to be a promising number of recipes and great photos...I did contact the publisher asking if it was possible to sell me an unlacquered copy. It was printed in China and I know from experience(toy testing) that Chinese paints more often than not contain lead. It is available in kindle format so no paint there.

Just received the book as a gift and it's gorgeous. I'll be careful about the laquered-edge pages - thanks for the tip. I plan to try the bialy recipe this weekend and I have some questions about it (no pre-bake rise? rye malt extract?) that I'm going to post in a separate thread.
