Video ads

I don't get the pop up ads, but I am getting auto start video ads in the sidebar. A bit jarring and also annoying when I happen to be watching a video on another page of the browser. As a rule I don't mind ads as I know they are a source of income for the site, but the videos are a bit much for me.

Is this some sort of glitch? Clamed down for a bit but it's back with a vengeance.

I have been getting those too. Yes first jarring.. second if I am sifting through posts late night early morning and trying to be quiet. Seems I have had to close my freshloaf tab quite a bit lately. Self starting audio/video is never good.

I don't get popups.  I don't get any sound bites but I  keep the volume off.  That applies to whatever browser I'm using.  I don't have a popup blocker over and above what comes with my browser of choice.  I also do not use Google as a search engine if I can help it.  I have my browser set to clear history on exit.  I clear the cache and cookies regularly.  Those simple steps can definitely contribute to a "clean environment".  Everything stays in your temp files and if you have an open door policy that's what you get - stuff coming through the door - good and bad.  Nothing's perfect but a few simple steps can help.

Having said all that, it's time for a big THANK YOU  to Floyd once again.  It's no small task to set up a site and keep it up to date and running smoothly.  And it is appreciated by most all I'm sure.  If the ads mean that the user doesn't pay a subscription I appreciate that too.  I, for one, can live with it.

I have my browser loaded up with all manner of ad blockers, to the point that I must use a different browser without ad blockers in order to have the full functionality of the browser for other sites. All of this is due to the copious amount of adware on this site. On other sites I use, the adware is nowhere near as intrusive.

I run a similar discussion board to this one which has been on line for 12 1/2 years. We have not one speck of advertising, none. The forum software is free. All I pay for is web hosting which is quite modest, so it can be done. It's one thing to cover your costs, but things get excessive and become intrusive when you have high profit expectations.

That's great but at some point your add-ons start conflicting with each other and slowing everything down.  As I said I don't get popups on any of my devices Doing the above. And no pop up blockers.

Fortunately we have options. If we don't like the price or tha way the site is administered we can go elsewhere with no penalty n

The add-ons have been fairly well behaved. Without them this site is dreadfully slow due to all the adware.

On other sites where they need to run a script, I use another browser.

I haven't noticed any video ads lately, so maybe Floyd has made an adjustment. If so, I really appreciate it!

For the last week or so, I've been subjected to a loud, full screen video ad from something calling itself Genesis.  I love this website, but I don't like this ad covering my screen as soon as I try to see this website.  I do have pop-up blocker on, but this one seems to go around it.

I do hope the wonderful Mr. Floyd (I know that isn't his last name; I'm from and in the South of USA, and that form of address is very respectful) can get rid of it when he has the time.
