French toast - your ideal bread?

I've been craving French toast today, and was just wondering; if you were going to "create" a bread specifically for the purpose of making French toast, what would it be?

I would go for a tight-crumb loaf, with a medium-soft crust and a moderately high proportion of whole wheat including some ground oats, perhaps with some kamut bran, maybe done with a tangzhong.

Was made by a former neighbor who used slices of French bread dipped in sweetened egg mixture and deep fried it.  Then it was generously coated with powdered sugar and cinnamon.

My son grabs the Walnut, Cranberry and Orange Celebration Bread from the BBA  and makes French Toast with it.

He claims it is perfect for French Toast, though he has never offered me any...

I love the french toast made with my sourdough vienna bread.  Lightly enriched, uniform tight crumb, pleasent light sub-acid flavor to counteract the sweet of the syrup I will undoubtedly be putting on the finished product.

with fruit and spices in it.

I have a recipe for a yeasted Banana Maple Walnut Flax bread that is 44% whole wheat and has a little cinnamon and ginger that is SUPERB for French Toast!

I made  French toast with my Brioche last Sunday  and it was the best French toast I had ever eaten. I made my own brioche a few days  earlier and kept half a loaf of it for the French toast. It was great.

It seems a lot of you prefer enriched breads, that's interesting!

Challah and Brioche are ideal candidates. Since French toast is toast soaked in egg and sugar (plus maybe vanilla and/or cinnamon), it makes sense to use a bread that has these in it already. I might even try an enriched egg and cinnamon bread.
