Looking for bread fans for a new ITV show

Hello

I hope it's ok to post in here. I'm an assistant producer at Victory Television in London. I'm working on a new big ITV entertainment show about huge fans. It's a light entertainment show for a Saturday night and has a competitive element, and we are looking for people who are really knowledgeable about their passion (think Mastermind level but funner!). There are various topics we are keen to find fans of, and one of these is bread!

If anyone thinks they are, or they know, someone who is a huge fan of bread and knows everything there is to know, please get in touch!

Thanks a lot for your time

Frankie

Hi Frankie

There are quite a lot of UK-based bakers on this forum, including me, but I don't think that I know enough to fit your requirements.  I hope that there is someone out there who can assist.

Regards

Richard

Frankie:  I. assume that the show will be filmed in London.  There are so many fantastic and really skilled bakers on this site.  Would you fly them over for filming?  I enjoy baking, but am not expert as some of the bakers on this site.  My husband is English, and we have a place in England and travel there quite a bit, however.

What form does the show take?  Is it a quiz like Millionaire / mastermind?  Or does it have practical elements like the Generation Game ?

like "Call the Midwife!"

How about a continuation of "The Baker" were a hit man turns to flour.  Or folks walk into that bakery and talk about baking, like it was a test kitchen.

Caphy - at the moment it's at early casting stages so we are filming casting tapes. We are likely to go around the country ourselves to do these but we wouldn't be able to pay to fly anyone to the UK unfortunately.

El Panadero - it's actually a bit of both! It's testing people's extensive knowledge about their passion in a variety of ways

Thanks for your replies, please do let me know if you can think of any great characters who have brilliant knowledge!

to see where the entertainment would be in that.  Would the general public be interested in the extensive knowledge of bread baking experts?  Mastermind has it's clique of highbrow fans but TBH only the general knowledge section is of interest to most people.

You say this will be " a light entertainment show for a Saturday night and has a competitive element,"

That sounds to me like a remake of You Bet and another program who's name I can't recall but it saw people with a wide variety of interests and hobbies be tested on their passions.

Is baking bread light entertainment?  I'm not sure it is, or that it should be.   I'm mindful here of the Great British Bake-Off with people being asked to bake breads with high hydration (sloppy) doughs.  How do we make that entertaining?  Ah yes ! Let's get the young pretty contestant to whizz her dough round and round in the air until it snaps off and flies across the room.  That'll be entertaining.   And then let's get a few of the contestants to "accidentally" drop their trays of buns onto the floor as they take them out of the oven, yes that one never gets old, we can do it week on week and get a laugh !

Yep, all funny but nothing at all to do with bread baking I'm afraid.

So depends what you want.  I can't see bread baking being an interesting topic for a highbrow Mastermind type quiz to be honest and the nature of bread making is such that you couldn't hope to achieve anything practical in a short span of time.  Baking bread IS all about time.  So anything practical is likely to fall into the domian of the Generation Game with bakers pitted against each other to see who can shape the most baguettes from a lump of dough in a minute etc.   Again, that's not something for a passionate baker I would think.

Sorry if I am being negative, I'm just struggling from your limited description to envisage what form this show would take.

These guys may be interested. They do some really different stuff (lentil and soya bread for example) and a lot of sourdough as well... http://soyfoods.co.uk/photos/pauls-bakery/index.htm

El Panadero - I can't really give the details away of the show at the moment (certainly not on a public forum) as we are early in the stages. It's actually more about 'bread' as a subject itself, rather than 'baking'. Plus the bread expert would be one of many experts on many topics, the show is not just about bread. Sorry I can't give more away about our format but no tv production company would do that at early stages. I'm just trying to find knowledgeable and interested contributors at the moment. If you are interested yourself then feel free to email me and I can explain a little better. francesca_wolfe@spe.sony.com

The Nettle - thanks for the suggestion! I've emailed them, they look great!
