Hello from Kansas!

Hello from Kansas everyone.

 

I am new to baking and always wanted to try it.  Ive been trying my hand at various kitchen things over the last couple years and found a Kitchenaid mixer for a really good price a couple months ago and now I want to try it out.  I have cooked 4 loaves of bread this week and its delicious.  It's been a long time since Ive had fresh baked bread and never done by myself.

 

I am eager to look over the website and learn from everyone and help whoever I can out.

Hi Pal251, I'm fairly new here too.  You'll love this site.  Every time I 'm on, I learn something new.  Watch out though, it's addictive !

Welcome to TFL. Chris is right, this place is addictive. It sparks creativity as well as hunger, with all the delicious looking pictures. There is definitely a lot to learn here, too. If you ever need anything specific, try using the search box in the upper right corner. Chances are, someone has already had the same question before and got it answered here, and you can find that post helpful. I usually glance over the new stuff that comes in on the front page, and end up learning a lot that way. You can also ask questions yourself, of course.

You're not the only resident of the Sunflower State that has found the way to TFL. It doesn't matter whether you're a Jayhawk, Wildcat, or Shocker fan here. We're all fans of good bread and helping one another to bake better bread. DavidEF wasn't joking when he encouraged you to use the search function for information. You could spend days on end there and still not read everything in the archives. It's an outstanding resource.

You're going to enjoy meeting the members of the community here.

I will give you some advice though.  As a Silo Tecker, I will advise not to put much store in what Jayhawkers have to say about baking :-)  It's why the American Institute of Baking International is located in Manhattan instead of Lawrence :-)  My wife graduated from KU though and she does make a mean Toll House cookie, so there is hope!  That ought to stir things up a little bit around the homestead but... no worries.

it mildly!  I'm From KCMO and she is from St Louis.  She still hates the I-70 World Series where the Royals beat the Cardinals with a come from behind finish!  All I know is that KU and St Louis isn't such a terrible combination that one can't recover form i.... as my wife so well proves.

my pizza's round and sliced like a pie but those from St. Louis prefer theirs rectangular with diamond shaped pieces.  Those from St Louis like their ribs slathered in sweet sauce and I prefer my ribs glazed in its own juices with a spicier sauce - on the side only :-)
