Hobart N50 vintage copper bowl insert not fitting?

So the N50 finally arrived back from MixedUpJake, after having a full motor rewind and everything... ( long story.. more on that later)

and for some reason, the Copper insert bowl i bought off ebay doesn't fit in the bowl.

The bowl fits the mixer perfectly.

Is there a 'different' bowl this is meant for?  a 5.5 qt bowl???

sorry, i don't know where else to put this...

Hi Ratatouille:

I think the original bowl was made by Atlas Metal Spinning Co.  On the internet there is a Youtube video on the bowl.  It claims that the stainless steel bowl is a K5A, 5 quart bowl.  Is your bowl a Kitchenaid bowl or Hobart bowl?  Maybe that's the problem.  Is there a name on your copper bowl?

That said, I just won a copper bowl on eBay (it's not here yet) and I hope that I don't run into the same problem as there is no name on it.  I have a Hobart N50, used, also bought on eBay (it's a monster!).  I hope that I don't run into this problem.

We shall see.

I have no idea who makes the bowl. it says "Made in Korea" so i doubt it's a hobart. i don't see any NSF stampings on it anywhere. maybe the dimensions are just barely off??? I have taken some pictures and i'm uploading them but it looks like the stainless bowl is just over a hair 8 1/8" of an inch or so. THe copper one is larger in that case. I could not find any stampings or markings ANYWHERE on the copper bowl, so i have no idea who manufactured it.

Sounds like a quality control issue.  My bowl is older than yours (yours is a rolled top; mine is flat) and is a Hobart (I pray . . . ), so I am hoping that my copper bowl will fit.  That said, why don't you take your copper bowl around to a restaurant supply store and see if it will fit into a new Hobart N50 bowl?  Just an option, but it seems a waste to let a good copper bowl go unused.  Unfortunately, it'll cost you.

Best,

which is the holy grail of copper bowls..  so maybe I will just sell this thing.  anybody interested in it?  I will probably take it to williams sonoma and sears and see if it fits any bowls. haha.

once i do, i'll get a pic or something, and go from there.

unless of course, i need two copper bowls or something.

but I had just won the copper insert so didn't go for it.  Looks swell, though!  I just wasn't sure about the shiny new bowl because, well, it's new, and you know how new can be as compared to old.  It is beautiful, though!  Did you see the Kitchenaid Hobart oil dropper on eBay?  Don't know what I'd use it for but to collect.  Think I'll leave it.

thank you so much. it is the 95% complete Paul Revere Signature Bicentennial collection from Revereware.  we're only missing the copper double boiler insert (we already have the ceramic double boiler insert) and the larger 2qt fondue (we have the 1qt fondue) I'm sure we will find them someday for the right price!

Here are some photos of the bowls in question.

looks as though it is bulging on the sides; it should be straight at the sides.  I wonder if possibly it expanded due to age.  Not sure how copper works.  My bowl (and a tetsubin) ought to be in today.  I'll let you know how it goes.  (I hope I don't cry.)  I'm looking forward to trying out a recipe for yellow cake using that bowl.

I do have a question for you about your Hobart as I would love to have my Hobart tricked out.  It seemed to me that you could only get a new Hobart painted and decaled like that.  Is yours an older model that was tricked out?

My copper bowl is here!  It fits, it fits!  Of course this means that I don't have an egg in the house, nor anything to make a cake.  Oh, well, better get to shopping . . .
