I dont really like the taste of sourdough, but i do find a lot of recipes that i like that have sourdough starters in them, is there any way i can switch the sourdough starter to a preferment instead.

Sure, just substitute commercial yeast in the same composition of water and flour.  It's the reverse of the process followed by those of us who convert commerical yeast pre-ferment recipes into sourdough recipes.
