An advance welcome to the United States!  Hope your trip goes smoothly.

If you're interested in food and gadgets, do spend some time at Chelsea Market,  75 Ninth Avenue (between 15th and 16th Streets).

It's less crowded in the morning - around lunch time, the market is packed.

Hopefully some TLF members who live in the city will offer some suggestions.

Enjoy your visit!

Bridge Kitchenware has relocated from NYC to New Jersey, but may be worth visiting...I visited the store years ago when they were still in New York and the variety of kitchenwares they carried at that time was mind-boggling:
A couple of other possibilities:
Hope you have a wonderful trip to the US!

I love Kerekes: They are in Brooklyn but worth the trek for their lower prices and good selection. :)

you should definitely try this store, they have everything you could possibly want. Not much customer service, and prices aren't cheap, but especially good if you're looking for something unusual.

I'll also chime in with an advance welcome to the U.S.! I hope you have a great time in the Big Apple.

I work for a home bread proofer maker- Brod & Taylor- and can say that Kitchen Clique in Brooklyn is the first NYC store to carry the proofer.  Perhaps that is a measure of their commitment to supplying the bread community with tools.

Pastry Monkey just introduced me to a new place I didn't know about in my 14 years living in NYC. Thank you! Also, I look forward to seeing the Brod & Taylor proofer in Malaysia someday. :)
