Pain Ancien

Hi - this is the Pain Ancien I made from the BBA recipe last week. The only thing I changed was to use half wholemeal flour. They came out a bit mishapen because I found the dough quite difficult to handle and in fact didn't even try to shape them. But I was quite pleased as a first effort and it tasted fab!

Geeze these are beautiful!

They look gorgeous! Maybe one day after many trials and errors, I will be able to build bread like this!

Your ancienne looks great to me. Admirable first effort to be sure. BBA describes it as the best bread to be found in Paris. Do you concur?

Hi - I haven't tried it in

Hi - I haven't tried it in France (will have to look out for it next time I go), but it's the best in my house :)

Last weekend I made Epi from the pain de campagne recipe last week and it was gobbled up by my OH's family. Didn't have time to doa photo. My cutting was a bit off anyway!
