Just interested what the salary/benefits for such a position is in El Segundo, CA?  Also, how many bakers are currently employed in your bakery?  You seem to be very specific in what you are looking for but you are not offering a lot of detail in why someone would want to work at your bakery.

David Schat's Bakery Cafe is a new family owned and operated bakery cafe by the beach in El Segundo, California. We have been open for 3 months. Getting our business up and running has been quite a journey and we are learning and growing every day! I appreciate your observation that our job description is missing why someone would want to work at our bakery.

There are actually many reasons why someone would want to work at our bakery.  In addition to our mission of creating amazing hand crafted breads and baked good, it is also our mission to provide our employee's with an environment that will allow each individual to grow in their craft and be creative. It is very important to us that our employees know that working at Schat's will provide them with the opportunities they need to fulfill their personal career goals and objectives. We are working extremely hard at creating a work environment that is positive, flexible, creative, and supportive where we all work together as a team.

Our location is also a great reason to work at David Schat's Bakery Cafe.  Our bakery cafe is an inviting open space which is  modern yet warm and comfortable.  Although we are in the Los Angeles area, El Segundo is a unique town that is like a quaint small town you would expect to find in the mid-west. El Segundo is located next to the Los Angeles International Airport and the Pacific Ocean. Our community is family friendly and business friendly which also adds to its uniqueness.

The salary for the lead baker position ranges from $15-$19 per hour. Since we are small and new, unfortunately at this time we cannot offer medical benefits. As we grow, this is something that we hope to change.

Hopefully I have addressed your concerns and/or questions with my post. I appreciate your input and we need to add this information to our job description. Please let me know if you have any other questions or concerns.

Sincerely,

Carrie

I love The Fresh Loaf and thought what better place to get the word out there than TFL to let fellow bakers know about our job opportunity. I know that amazing, skilled, experienced, and professional bakers use this website so I decided to reach out to them on this site. We have been open for 3 months and our business is growing every week! However, finding a reliable lead baker has been a challenge to say the least. I know that skilled and reliable people are out there. I am just doing what I can to find them! I apologize if you feel that this is not the appropriate place to get the word out.

I think if Floyd, who owns the site, had any objection, he would let you know.

Your posting certainly wasn't objectionable to me.  That said, you should also check into advertising at the Bread Baker's Guild of America, which has a classified section for professionals:  http://www.bbga.org/

Was considering the same question myself.  I'm in an area on the Washington coast where we need an artisan baker, and soon will be searching for someone to start a new bakery.  This site seems like a very appropriate location to get the word out that there are opportunities.

It would be interesting at some time to do a survey of Fresh Loaf members to see how many are looking for bakery jobs.
