Hi from southwest Missouri

Hello from Springfield, MO!  I've been loving the kitchen ever since my wife introduced me to bread baking years ago.  Last year I purchased a Whisper Mill grain mill and after years of store bought bread flour I've found out that's not what bread is all about after all!  We absolutely love the whole wheat breads that come out of our oven and now I've discoverd "The Fresh Loaf" and I think maybe the whole world of bread has come into view.  I am currently shopping for a preowned & affordable dough mixer, since I've about ruined my wifes stand mixer and it's a very good one too.  A Kenwood Major KM250 650W!  Stronger than a KA but still not built for large batches of heavy bread dough.  I'm still discovering The Fresh Loaf and look forward to learning from all you experienced bread bakers on here.

And don't make the mistake to buy a KitchenAid mixer for bread dough - it will not be able to handle it (see mixer discussions here in TFL).

Happy baking,

Karin

With my folks south of Branson, I've seen your fair city quite a few times over the years!  It sure is handy having folks to share bread baking tips and tricks, stories and pics.   One nice little crumby corner of the Internet world where there's always something good in the oven!

Best way to discover is just to type something into the search box and follow the threads.   You can even ask it simple questions!

I have found a slightly used Electrolux Magic Mill DLX for sale & it's on it way via UPS, should be here Feb. 27th, Monday.  I can hardly wait to get it, set it up and make some dough!  I've watched several videos on "UTube" & it is definetly a different type of mixer.  Like I said in my introduction I've about ruined our Kenwood Major stand mixer, it still works but only to about half speed.  Today I made a double batch of whole wheat flour tortillas, they are so good!  And yesterday a pound of fresh semolina pasta & my wonderful homemade Italian Gravy, not the average "pasta sauce" since it's so good on Italian sausages, meatballs, pizza, stromboli & pastas of course.  But anxious to get some real dough going.  Will keep ya updated as I enter a new era in our kitchen.

Back again!  I've had my Magic Mill DLX for a couple of weeks now and LOVE IT!  Our daughter bakes some for a farmers market she does once in awhile (a bit too early yet here to be too busy) & said her cinnamon rolls & dinner rolls were the best ever & she had been using our old Hobart KA!  I'm now trying my hand at sourdoughs & realizing that bread baking is a world all it's own!  We can't eat it fast enough for me to make all the breads I want to try. ;^)  At any rate, I just wanted to update my post with the info on the Electrolux DLX machine and I assure one and all it is exactly that, a machine!  BTW I love TFL site, lots of fun, facts and folks!
