Hop Yeast

My mother cooked her bread in a wood fired oven, using yeast made from hops, which she kept on the hob of the stove. I have her recipe, but am having trouble finding hops. If there is any Australian bakers seeing this can you tell me where I could get hops. Thank you.

Abigail,  check with the micro breweries in your area or on line.

I'm a beer brewer.  I buy hops locally and on line here in the states.  I also participate in the online forum at " morebeer.com".  There are a few brewers on that site from Oz.  Doa web search on homebrew specific to your country and I think you'll come up with a bunch of possibilities.

I also grow my own hops which is very easy but I'm not sure if it would be suited to your climate.  There is an Australian hop called "Pride of Ringwood".  Good luck!.

Thank you Bill_C and Half-Baked. I'll try a brew shop for hops (I didn't know there were different varieties).
