Ok to knock bread down after shaping?

Is it ok to knock bread back down once you have shaped and risen?

I am making a basic white loaf, and about half way into its rising after shaping it became clear that that the shape was not going to be what I wanted. So I have knocked it back down and reshaped.

Is this ok? Or am I going to have to start from scratch?

Thanks for your help,
Charlie

You CAN knock back if need

You CAN knock back if need be, but try to do it only once.  Eventually either the yeast runs out of sugar to work on (and yes, there is some sugar in flour even if you've added none) or it misses something else and works less well.  Also, the protein chains that give your loaf shape and firmness could become compromised.

Ok, super. I wont do it more

Ok, super. I wont do it more than once.

Its just I didnt shape it very well and seems started popping out at the side, just looked a real mess.
Shall update the thread when its done!

Fingers crossed
Thanks for your help.

Thank you!

That is fantastic, covers a lot of questions I have been thinking about.

Thanks for taking the time to link me to that, appreciate it.
