New to the site
Hi all, love this site, found it by chance.
I live in Dublin Ireland, I am a married man with 2 teenage daughters, I have been cooking homemade pizza for nearly 3 years now, and I love it, I love it when the family say, "YES" I can smell dad's pizza, they seem to really love them, they never leave a slice.
Can somebody please help answer some questions I have.
The recipes on this site say "a cup of this" "a cup or that", I have not tried to cook like this yet. I have to use Pounds and grams. How will I get around this problem?
Also my oven only goes up to 260*C.
Kind Regards from Ireland
Regards
Brian

Hi there, I'm new to the site as well.
Trying to figure out the posting process..please bear with me.

Hi, Brian, welcome to TFL. :)
I'm across the sea from you in South East of England.
Not sure which recipe you've seen on this site, but large majority of posters here uses grams in their formulae because that's the most accurate measurement, as you know. So, if you could try using the search tool on the left on the pages to look for other recipes that might interest you, I'm pretty sure you'll get a lot with metric measurements quite easily.
Hope this helps.
best wishes,
lumos

The only problem is you'd wanna know whether the poster of the recipe in question means American cups, British cups or some other version of cup. They all vary ever so slightly. Also the amount in your cup will depend on how you fill it up, whether by scoop and level, spooning flour in, whether you tap on it or not.
That said, I think the insistence of some TFLers on precision to the gram is unnesessary.. how much flour your dough will absorb depends on the flour itself, air humidity and temperature and many, many other factors. I find precise measurements useful when learning a new recipe but afterwards I always go by the feel of the dough. And I can tell you I never use the exact same amount of flour in different batches to the same recipe.
As with temperatures, 260 C is well enough for almost anything. Any higher than that is probably Farenheit not Centigrade, as a sizeable proportion of TFLers are from the US.
Best of luck with your cooking adventures!
Have a look at this website, too, it's got more conversion tools than you can shake a breadstick at.
Another problem is every conversion site/list for Cups/metric measurement gives you different rate of conversion.
I use the site Faith linked above, but I also I use this site, too.
"my oven only goes up to 260*C"
That's plenty. It should even be enough for a pretty good pizza. You don't need a blast furnace to make a good loaf of bread.
