Porto's Bakery
Porto's Bakery, their website: http://www.portosbakery.com/
I've never tried their breads and pastries. Their meat stuffed potato balls are delicious.
Sacramento - The Bread Store
The Bread Store 1716 J Street, Sacramento, CA 95814 (916) 557-1600
It's the only bakery I know, used to make side trips when out shopping just to get their breads. (then ga$ climbed) I'm sure others can recomend other bakeries ... ok 1 other I know of is on Freeport just below the tracks north of City College.

Ettore's European Bakery
Hi breadbakingbass, thanks for your suggestion. that's very interesting since I am from Zurich. I am living in the USA since 1993. Will definitly visit Ettore's
Portos
I second the Portos suggestion from the first response. Not only are their wares very tasty, they have an amazing system that gets everyone served in short order (even though the place is always packed).
