What fun!

Hi! My name is Jim and I'm thrilled to have found this "one stop shopping" site. I've done a LOT of high end home cooking over many years but bread baking has always been something of an afterthought for the very thing required to do it successfully...you have to measure everything. Not to mention Acme bread is available in a number of local stores. I'm at a point where I wanted to shore up this weakness and this forum has helped me improve by leaps and bounds in two weeks. I just finished a three day odyssey that produced the best bread I've ever made.

Your experience toward an introduction to bread baking success parallels my own.  Welcome to TFL.

Welcome!

I, like you, came here to get a bit of information to improve my bread baking skills....

I feel it only fair to warn you that there is a contagious disorder associated with this forum which is known locally as CBS - compulsive baking disorder....

If you haven't gotten a hint of it yet start reading up on sourdoughs.  If you want to avoid it all together.....well, it is probably too late......sorry!

All here who have it thoroughly enjoy it so it isn't the worst thing that can happen to you!

Happy Baking!

I jumped in with both feet. I did a batch for Easter that took two days and was made from my own starter. Best bread I've ever made and I already know what minor tweaks it needs to make it better.

As for CBS, the waistline is showing minor affects but nowhere near as bad as when I was perfecting my creme brulee recipe. :-D

Sounds like you are off to a good start!

My one saving grace in dealing with CBS is that I can't eat any of what I bake so the waistline stays the same.....not sure about the recipients' waistlines though but so far no complaints.  :-D
