These Butterflies flew away quick!

These decorated sugar cookies were fun to make and flew away quickly after a lovely family Easter dinner.

Sylvia:

They look so pretty!  How did you make the butterfly shape? Cookie cutter?

I used a butterfly cookie cutter, I've had for ages and never used before. These were baked very late at night after a very long day of baking breads, I found they were so much fun to make,  I'm looking forward to making them again.  They can be done so pretty, spending a little more time and also using a toothpick to draw the glaze through the foundation glaze.  I only had basic dye colors...using colors like black on orange can be very dramatic and lovely.  There are lot's of examples on the web of very beautiful Butterfly cookies..they taste delicious using a recipe for the cookie dough that is not sweet but compliments the sweetness of the glaze.  I added an almond flavor to the glaze.  Everyone loved the look and flavor.

Hello Sylvia,
What gorgeous little 'flutterbys' - very nicely decorated, and the pastel colors of your cookies look just beautiful
in the soft light of your photo.

(p.s. my mother-in-law's other name for a butterfly is a 'flutterby' :^)   )

What a cute name given by your MIL.  Pink is my grand daughter's favorite color..I was thinking of her when I tinted the glaze.

Love the decorative icing. I'm certain there were not even crumbs left.

Mike was very happy, when we arrived home late after celebrating Easter with the family, that I had a few cookies stashed away in the frig for him to have a late night snack with a glass of milk.
