DLX bowl question

DLX bowl question

Hi.  I'm new here and researching the DLX vs Bosch.  I understand the bowl is between 3 and 4 pounds empty, so I'm just wondering how hard it is to get dough out of.  With my current KA I usually just life the bowl in the air and dump/scrape out the dough, but I don't see this happening with the DLX.  Is it easy enough to just tip the bowl over on its side on the counter and scrape out the dough?

The DLX Bowl is easy to clean the dough out of. The bottom is flat with rounded edge at the corner (if that makes any sense). I use a plastic scraper and help the dough out when on its side. A little or 9 lbs no difference.

Plus the little white scraper that comes with the machine is rounded and fits into the curve of the bowl  beautifully to get every last bit of dough out. also the other end of that scraper where there is a little nick in it, that fits well under the inside rim of the bowl to get that last bit of dough.,,,,

 you really should have no problem,,,,, qahtan

Alicia, I have a DLX and also have some arthritis in my hands.  I have no problem with the stainless bowl.  If it weighs that much it sure doesn't feel like it.  I make 4-6 loaves at a time.  Terry

Thanks for all of your replies.

Terry, I also have occasional arthritis issues with my hands, so your reply was reassuring.  I emailed one of the companies selling the DLX and asked about the weight of the empty bowl, that's where I got the 3-4 pounds.

I ordered a DLX and am anxiously awaiting its arrival!

I think you'll be very happy with your new dlx. It is definitely a Clydesdale among Shetlands in the home mixer category; a real workhorse.

Look for your dough to come together faster than you expect if you compare with planetary mixers, e.g. KAs, and at lower, more gentle speeds.

As long as you're mixing less than 6 or 7 lbs, use the roller. I've seen complaints about the dough climbing the roller. The fix is to be sure the roller is locked a sufficient distance from the bowl; e.g. for a 1-2 lb batch, about an inch, for 3-4 lb, about an inch and a half, and for 5-6 lbs, 2 inches. The manual discusses this.

There's no good reason for the arm to be slamming against its stops. Reduce the speed. The dlx works by squeezing the dough. Slow works as well as fast. The scraper is misnamed; it should be called a flipper. Its job is to give the dough a bit of a twist. As the dough gains strength, it will catch on the flipper and just hang there. Don't worry. It's doing some really effective work. The dough is getting wound up as you would  wind the rubber band on a toy airplane. When the tension is high enough, it will break loose and be squeezed by the roller again. The twist and squeeze action happens best at medium and low speeds.

The dlx works differently from any other mixer I've seen, so it represents a new paradigm in mixing/kneading. A paradigm that works like a draught horse.
