What to Eat on BBA Anadama Bread

Just made these loaves and they came out great.  The molasses taste is a little strong for me.  Is this tpicallt used for sandwiches or toasted with a spread?

I toasted mine, made peanut butter sandwiches, put honey on it, and even used it for a turkey sandwich which was surprisingly good.  I really thought that it would go really well with chili, and next time I make it I will make Anadama bread with it!

A bunch of us just started the BBA Challenge 2011, and we just baked Anadama yesterday as challenge #1. So this is a timely thread for us.

I'll admit that it's hard to match up this bread to toppings. To be honest, I did find that toasting it with butter worked well. Whatever you do, don't use it with an Italian sauce -- FAIL!

I think Jo Jo is probably right, too, though I haven't tried it myself -- I'd bet chili would work really well with it.

Anyone else have any suggestions? I have two loaves in my kitchen!

My hubby says he liked when I mixed honey with butter and then just warmed the bread a little bit. I cheated and halved the recipe, so I only had one loaf.  When it's just me and my hubby two loaves would be way overkill!

Jo Jo -

Luckily I have two ravenous kids! In my post at my blog, I actually mentioned "the Kid Test" for each bread. Since I make the full recipe, it's important that the kids will eat it, otherwise my wife and I will gain 300 pounds eating the bread!

Lol, my son loves whole wheat breads and really enjoyed his christmas home.  I made his absolute favorite, whole wheat pizza braids.  I filled them with ranch dressing, pepperoni, and a mix of cheese.  I made a zillion of them and froze them, and he ate them every day for lunch, then took the leftover ones back to school with him!  Not to mention the cheesecake and fruit filled braids, and regular pizza's I made.  He would have loved the Anadama bread.  My daughter who is on the east coast just drooled over the pictures, and made her own home made pizza for her future in-laws!

I made mine a made up rustic bread-casatiello hybrid once with three cheeses, pepperoni and salami. It was enjoyed!

My kids won't touch my cooking (Italian - they of course only eat mac and cheese) but at the same time, they will eat any dessert I make, especially cheesecake.

The ones we've enjoyed so far (I've made Anadama bread before):

Cinnamon-spice cream cheese (whip softened cream cheese with a bit of cinnamon and sugar or honey

Honey butter

Peanut butter or almond butter

Gingered cream cheese

Goat cheese.

I also like it with pork tenderloin, for sandwiches, and with turkey breast and hot pepper jelly (use arugula instead of lettuce for a nice bite).

Now I want to make Anadama bread again, those toppings sound really good, especially the cream cheese whipped with cinnamon and sugar.  I thought it went real well warmed with butter and honey with dinner.  I just put a small amount in the butter and whipped it up.  I think it would go well with gjetost (a form of goat cheese that is sweet and tangy).

One of our favorite breads. Just a little butter then warm it for about 5 seconds in the micro---or a little buckwheat honey does the job.

It makes rockin' French toast. I put a little ground ginger in the egg mixture and wow, it was awesome. Slice it nice and thick.

Chris --- yes, I'm doing the challenge, just lamely. Ate the anadama before I could take a picture, and was overwhelmed with bread in the house this weekend so have delayed the Greek bread. Planning on coming on board formally this weekend! Thanks for your patience...
