Blackout on homepage of photo display

Is anyone experiencing a blackout on the homepage photo on the left of their screen?  The photo on the right is fine!

I've both noticed myself and read about quite a few problems with photos on TFL. The results tend to not be consistent and to not make a whole lot of sense. Sometimes a whole picture will be completely absent; other times the top of the picture will be there but the bottom will just be all white. For some reason (which I'm under the impression Floyd is trying to figure out:-), pictures on the TFL website are more sensitive than most other websites.

Sometimes it's browser settings, sometimes it's the total load on the computer, and sometimes it's sub-par wiring. Almost always it affects only a few people but not most others. And there have been more than a few cases where different web browsers on the same computer show different things. What often (but not always) works is to click the "recirc" (two arrows in a circle?) button when the browser says "done" to try a second time (and a third time if necessary after that); usually you'll get more pictures each time.

Did you perhaps recently a) change any of your browser settings, or b) add another one of those "convenient" gadgets that displays a tiny icon in the lower left corner of your computer, or c) "clean up" the messy tangle of wires behind your computer with the result that your network cable now lays right next to a power cord for several feet, or d) run short of disk space?

(The last time it happened to me the power connector was starting to come loose from the back of my D-Link network router box. It hadn't fallen completely out yet, and the lights still flickered reassuringly  ...but it wasn't in firmly either.)

Thats weird - both images appear to be on the same server so how odd that just one is not showing up for you! - is it possible you have an ad-blocker installed and accidentally clicked the image adding it to the blocked list? I know I've done that a lot of times, especially since sometimes my tracking pad gets sticky and it accidentally registers a right click and adds stuff to the pop-up menu when Im scrolling around with sticky fingers.... I know for my ad-blocker, there's a little symbol that shows up in the bottom bar menu of my browser and it'll tell me how many blocked items are on a page. I've gone and disabled the blocker from that menu that comes up when I click that symbol on the sites that I have a habit of accidentally clicking on and blocking stuff by accident that way.

We just had them here yesterday.  Everything else is fine.  I'm new to the Apple MacBook Pro..so it's probably something I did.  Time to call, Miiiike!

Thanks so very much for your patience and help!

I am having the same problem today (no picture on the left). I did have it yesterday.

We also have an Apple MacBook, but generally tend to blame these problems on our service provider, and our 'remote' location (ie. not smack in the middle of an urban centre).

I have problems with the photos loading if they are linked to this site, but if they are hosted elsewhere I don't seem to have any problems.  I upload my photos to a different site, then use html to link them when I want to have them appear in the post.  The photos won't load fully from TFL, especially if I try to move the scroll bar down the page before it's fully loaded, but there are times I have to reload the photos numerous times.  Just seems to be some sort of glitch, hope someone figures it out. Internet is full of those, glitches that is!

I saved the image on the left as a png instead of a jpeg.  Some browsers don't like png files.

I will watch to see if the pictures that are having problems are png's rather than jpg's.  I'm thinking though that it has more to do with the number of photos in the thread and that they are possibly to large, so when I have traffic on my home network it slows the download enough that I lose some information.  The ones that are loaded to sites like photobucket limit the size of the file and physical size of the picture automatically as it uploads to the site.  Basically they are optimized for viewing on a computer because you need so much less information in the file to allow it to view nicely on a computer.  Anyway, just my thoughts on the matter, could simply be my provider cuz I live in the middle of nowhere!  :)
