Organic Spelt Bread Recipe

This is my recipe for my Organic Spelt Bread Recipe which I won 1st prize in the category of the Bread Secion in an Agricultural Show.  So I decided to share it with you all.  Enjoy!!

Ingredients

2 cups Organic White Spelt Flour and 2 cups Organic Plain Flour  (I have also used Organic Wholemeal Flour)

1 cup warm Water

1 teaspoon active dry Yeast

2 tablespoon Organic Honey

1 teaspoon Organic Salt

2 tablespoon oil (I used Rice Bran Oil and have also tried using Olive Oil)

Method

In bread machine place warm Water, Honey, Oil, Salt, then Flour and lastly Yeast.  Put on the setting for mixing which on my machine is One and half hours.

Preheat oven at 210C.  I have a special bread tin and place the dough inside, sprinkle warm water on top of the dough and then sprinkle sesame seeds.

Place in a greased bread tin and bake for 15 minutes at 210C and then 30 minutes at 180C.  You know when it is cooked when it sounds hollow.  Cook on rack.

Enjoy!!

Sabina

Do you think this recipe would work with non-organic salt?

Hello MichaelH,

Yes, that is fine.  I just prefer organic Salt.

Congratulations on wining the prize :)

But one question I do have-how can salt be organic or not organic?

Hello Noor13,

Thank you for your comments regarding my win for the Organic Spelt Bread.

You can use whatever Salt you like, just as a personal preference I use Organic Salt.

Hello Sabina,

congratulations!! and thank you for sharing the recipe.

I have two questions: 1) mixing time, what do you mean by " Put on the setting for mixing which on my machine is One and half hours."  I do not know what machine you have, so for how long should I mix in my Electrolux?

2) Once you put the dough in the pan, do you bake it right away or you let it rise for a while?

Thanks,

Mati

Hello Mati,

Thank you for  commenting on my win and am happy to share this recipe.

I have a Tefal Bread machine.  The program setting on my machine is No 6 which is the for mixing and rising the dough only. (eg. for Pizza Dough and Ciabatta Dough, Foccacia Dough).

Once I put the dough in the bread tin, then place it into the oven to cook.  I don't let it rise again.

I hope this helps with all your questions, if not send me another message.

Regards,

Sabina

You actually won first prize in an agricultural show with a bread machine loaf. That is quite and accomplishment! I'm sure you are proud.
