this is (finally) the recipe that appeared in the Honolulu Advertiser sometime in the early 70's

for sure it's nothing that is sold in the stores as "Hawaiian Sweet Bread"

this is the recipe for Hawaiian Sweet Bread (Pao Doce) that appeared in the Honolulu Advertiser sometime in lthe early 70's. I haven't tried to convert it to weights .. probably they did the dip and sweep method of measuring. somewhere I think I still have the destructions/recipe for Leaonards Malasadas. basically a Beignet .. and for convenience can be made with any canned biscuit/sweet roll dough. of course the original is always the best. Thank You!  I've been looking for something like this for ages.

And if you have the recipe for Leonard's Malasadas, I will find out where you are and give you a very big hug!  When I was growing up in Kaimuki, Kapahulu and Leonards were just around the corner, and Leonards Malasadas were the treat of the week!  Twenty years later, I was over there on business and on a whim went looking, found Leonards (same cakes in the window) and same Malasadas.  I bought three dozen and took them into our meetings that morning.

I would LOVE to have that recipe.
