Greetings

Greetings from S. Oregon,

I happened on this site about a week ago, how wonderful it is.  I have been baking bread on and off for more years than I will admit too!  This is a whole different different world, I am learning about starters, barms, and poolishs, thanks to everyone's sharing and advice and pics.  We have some snow today so I guess I will bake if the electric stays on.

Well, spring will get here, sixty degrees today, but come Saturday, winter returns.  Maybe the weathermans wrong.

Welcome Mary S.  My mom never made bread quite like the folks around here do.  She likes what we bring over any way.  There's so much more for me to learn though.

You aught to find this as intresting as i, hope you enjoy yourself

Welcome, Mary!

I hail from northern Washington state--and it's snowing a wet blizzard right now.  It's been a long, dark, cold winter.  As one friend observed, "Perfect weather for writers and alchoholics."

But also perfect weather for baking!  What could be more cheering than fresh bread coming out of the oven, a pot of home-made soup on the back of the stove, and a motley group of friends/family coming through the door?

I have learned so much about good bread and soulful baking on this site.  The people here tend to be humble, honest, and encouraging--even the experts!

I hope you enjoy it, drawing (and sharing!) encouragement with your baking friends.
