hi from Ohio

Hi! I am a 22 year old college senior from Ohio and I stumbled upon thisr site while looking for a pretzel recipe.

I have just started baking with some mixed results. I have made pretzels twice andr flour tortillas with good but not great results but my pita bread failed to puff which was discouraging. I'm going to try my first loaf later this week and maybe try pitas again too.

Nice to meet you.

Welcome, naima.  There is a good pretzel recipe on the food channel site.  They are made by Alton Brown.

I find I get my best puffs on a cast iron griddle on top the stove, turning a couple of times.  It really saves on energy because you are not heating the oven forever on such high temps.

What part of Ohio do you live in?  What university do you attend?  I live in Brimfield, outside of Kent.

Don't get discouraged when things don't work out the first time.  There are many great bakers here and they are really great helpers.  Terry R

I live in Queens, NY now but was born and raised in the Kenyon College/Denison University area (Mount Vernon and Newark Ohio).   Just keep trying.  It will come to you and then you will wonder why it took so long.  Also lived in Wooster (College of Wooster) and Delaware (Ohio Wesleyan) areas.  Wonderful part of the country with a bunch of really great people and lovely way to live.
