Wanted: Doughhook for Kenwood Major

When I was making bread the other day, the doughhook actually sheared off at the base of the spindle.  (Honest, my bread isn't *that* heavy)  Now I can't make my usual whole wheat loaf, 'cause there's no way I'm doing that by hand (okay, maybe it *is* that heavy).

Anybody have a doughook for an older Kenwood Major (My model is A717, but I believe the A707's fit as well)

Thanks!

There were two sizes of shafts on these beaters / hooks, they are not interchangeable. The original A707 used a smaller diameter shaft than the later A707A. I had exactly the same problem with my A707 dough hook, it sheared off across the retaining ring slot in the shaft. I rebuilt the gearbox, substituting the A707A steel gears for the nylon ones and the bigger diameter beater socket, effectively upgrading it to a A707A. I needed to buy a new set of A707A beaters, but that was no problem as two of the three originals had broken. I got all the parts from Masterspares who will ship worldwide.

Thank you for your help!  I tried both places, and neither one had a doughhook available.  I guess they stopped making the parts fairly early and now they're all failing.  I did find one place that wanted $97 plus shipping for the doughhook, but I decided to wait.

....and lucky I did, becuase I happened into a bosch universal for $100.  I love my kenwood, but I think I love the bosch more. :-)

Thank you!

Try E bay. The A707A, A907 and older KM Major models all have the same dough hook.

OK, yes later models were interchangeable, but it was the earlier one that had the design fault - the thin shaft that sheared. From the original description I would suspect that you have one of these and the later beaters will not fit unles you do what I did and rebuild the gear box with A707A parts.

Of course the ordinary Chief parts won't work on a Major either. They are too short to reach the bottom of the bowl.
