Many thanks to everyone for their advice re creaming butter & sugar.
I let the butter warm, turned the speed up to max & 'hey presto'! - perfectly fluffy beginnings for the oatmeal, PB & chocolate chip cookies from Dorie Greenspan.
This is a wonderful little machine; it actually will knead 6# of dough, too.

Yes, the compact is a fantastic little machine. I can't fathom the reason Bosch discontinued it. Silly people.
