Happy New Year from a novice baker

Happy New Year!

Greetings from the Twin Cities of Minnesota.  I've been lurking here for some time, soaking in as much as I can.  So far I've learned a wealth of knowledge yet there is so much more to learn.  I am a novice at baking breads all I have is our simple home kitchen and (shudder) electric oven.  (I hate electric range and ovens.  Seems like an easybake oven to me, someday we'll remodel to gas).  I've been making bread for some time with my old bread machine.  I've been impressed with what comes out of these bread machines.  But there is so much more to be baked that a bread machine just can't acomplish.  This fall, after purchasing a Kitchenaide stand mixer, I thought I'd step it up and start baking for real.  I started simple by baking biscotti.  I ended up baking four batches.  That was fun and delicious!  Next was my grandmother's Cardamom bread.  I tried, it turned out wonderfully, despite her wing it recipe, and not being able to find yeast cakes.

Anyway thanks for sharing all of your knowledge and tips
