Recipe from Fantasia Bakery wanted

San Francisco area members will remember the wonderful pastries from Blums and Fantasia Bakery, both long-gone. One of my favorite breakfast pastries ever was Fantasia's Pecan Rolls. I wonder if anyone has the recipe.

Ernest Weil, the founder of Fantasia, published a pastry cookbook called "Love to Bake" in 2006. It is apparently out of print and available only at "rare book" prices. Does anyone have this book? If so, could you see if the recipe for Pecan Rolls is in it and, if so, post it on TFL?

I'd be eternally grateful!

Hi David, I think you can download the book for a donation of $25 to charity of your choice.  At least, that's what this website claims.

Is that the book you seek?

Yes. That's the site I found, but it didn't occur to me to click the "download" ... Thanks for waking me up.

Glad it's the one you wanted, David.  That's certainly a creative way to distribute a book, and a very nice one, too.

I just exchanged e-mails with Sandy Weil, son of the founder of Fantasia Bakery. The recipe for Pecan Rolls is in his father's book ("I Love to Bake Pastry")! I'm so excited!

Those rolls were nothing like your everyday cinnamon rolls/sticky buns. The dough was flakey, not soft, but not a laminated dough. It was not too sweet but had a wonderful flavor. It was our all-time favorite breakfast pastry, and we've been morning it for 20 years, since Fantasia closed.

The book is only available by download. It costs $25, all of which is donated to a charity that you can choose from a list on the web site.

For other bakers who miss Fantasia as I do and want their recipes, the web site is:

Did I say I am excited!
