When everybody else cooks, I build this...

We have lots of families and friends with us this holiday and everybody wants to cook.  So I retreat to a little corner in the kitchen to let them do their things.  Not being able to cook drives me crazy; I must have my share of fun with food.  Here it is, our edible log cabin, completed with parkade and skating pond, for the holidays:

WOW! That's impressive! Our son broke a tooth on gingerbread house candy last year - be careful when it comes time to eat it ;)

What's the rainbow bridge made out of?

Oh, and the... penguins? Leading Santa's sleigh? Love it! Are those chocolates?

Oh I hear ya.  We don't usually eat the gingerbread house or any candy used to build it.  Our tradition is to wait until it petrifies then take it out to the backyard with a hammer for demolition.  We did eat the haunted house for Halloween but it was just a few days old and we took it into little man's class to share with everyone.

The rainbow bridge is made of fruit roll-ups.  I used it for stain glass windows and ribbons as well.  They are very easy to use; didn't even need icing to "glue" them down.

I was going to make the penguins using olive and cream cheese... but then I found these gum drop pengiuns when I was in the grocery store.  Saved me a lot of time, and they are so cute too.  The cars, on the other hand, were made of chocolate.

LOL - let me guess: you have boys! ;)

The hammer idea is a great one. We may have to adopt that one. I for one am kind of ready for an end to the endless supply of sugars that our kids have been consuming this past week ;)

Oh yea, the hammer was actually the fun part.  My little guy likes sweet but he doesn't over do it too often.  If someone ate too much of the house it would be ME!  Al

We had lots of fun making this Christmas scene.  I particularly like Santa and his team of penguins.  Will wait for the whole thing to harden then bring out the hammer!  That's the part I am looking forward to. :-) Al
