I remember my mother baking Hutzelbrot but never learned how she did it. I've found several different recipes but I'd like to hear from someone who has actually made this bread and learn your recipe. I've been trying some recipes, but can't get the soaked fruit to mixed with the dough. Also my tries have been dry.. which I don't think Hutzelbrot should be.

I know it as Kletzenbrot

(note spelling Hutzelbrot )
Did you want all the other fruits (dried plums, raisins, figs, & nuts) in there too?
If you want only pears in the bread, try cooking first and running thru a meat grinder, then blend into the dough.

Huetzel Brot
Mary, I am eating a slice of toasted Huerzel Brot right now. It has been a family Christmas tradition since I was a child. My mom made us all loaves this year but it is probably going to be up to me next year. I have the recipe at home (I am at work now) but will post it tomorrow. It has a lot of dried fruits in it and is delicious.
oops sorry, translation into English

Mary, I will post it for you
Mary,
I will post it for you tomorrow. The recipe I use is from the Trapp Family Lodge in Stowe, Vermont and was a recipe from Maria Von Trapp from the Trapp family of Austria. My husband is Austrian is said the recipe is the same as what he remembers his mother making when he was a boy. Linda

Grease and dust with flour, 2 loaf pans. Sift together all the dry ingredients together in a large bowl. Add the buttermilk slowly and stir into a smooth dough. Let cool in pans for 15 minutes then turn out on wire rack and let cool completely. Enjoy!
