Our Bread Adventure ...something everyone here should try!

We had a booth this weekend at our school. $15.00 got us a spot and I baked all day Friday and the kids had a ball. I had made them Christmas aprons a few years back, they grabbed their Santa hats and helped "run the store". We also made cookies and I let them keep the cookie money for incentive. It was a good project and not really a lot of work. Eric has given me pointers on next time improvements that might help you too should you try this. Keep it professional , keep it simple. ( I need to loose the ribbon! ) . Keep decorations on the table, not the bread.  Give them what they can't get in the grocery. Sound advice from a good friend.

Give it a try, I'll sure you'll have a good time. You'll make money and friends!

Nice work.

That is a full table of bread.  You must have been quite busy!

You and kids must have had a great time.  You did a full load of baking and it looks wonderful.  What all did you bake and what was the most popular bread?

I started out mixing 10 loaves of my favorite French  type Bread, left the mixer bowl as was, in goes roll dough. I used my favorite roll recipes , exchanging wheat flour for some of the white, for one variety. Then SAME BOWL, ha! mixed the same dough, adding a bit of coffee, cocoa,  and black pepper for the darker rolls. Wash bowl. Then I did the sweeter Cinnamon Raisin swirl loaves. By this time the first was ready to shape, and as I got one thing done, another was right behind it. Rolls slow you down on the shaping. I have a very type A thing going on that they have to all be the same gram weight, but they do have that uniform look. It is nice. The cinnamon had to be last in the line up since it is a little sweet,( because of the bowl washing bit, it is all the same thing just over and over)  takes longer to bake since I had to be at school at 2:00 p.m. to pick up Emily, it could be left in the oven. Then came the cookies. They were a kid friendly (and somehow not on the table in the photo???) so that they could actually say they helped and earned the cookie money to keep. They are cake mix cookies. Ever heard of them? 1 box of cake mix, 2 eggs, 1/2 cup oil. Mix scoop and bake at 350 for 8 to 10. How simple was that for kids? We used Devil's food cake mix, and as a mix in rolled them in Heath Bar bits. They did not at all taste like a knock off.

Just remember, it is just as easy to mix up 10 of something as it is 1 batch, just have a MUCH larger rising container! LOL! Anything like that would make a great Christmas gift for the hairdresser or mailman, teacher, ect in these tough times. Just don't let it overwhelm you, and keep your mess to ONE counter. Oh, and by all means, use parchment. Makes cleanup on all those pans fast.

the loaves. The school was having a chilli cookoff and after the judging, chilli was sold by the bowl. Folks came and got bread to go with it, but it was a huge success. I sold out and went home with 3 hours to go in the Festivle.

Great multitasking, Audra!  I have made the cake mix cookies with my grandkids when they were smaller..gosh they are growing so fast!  That was great having a booth with chilli and one with bread.

Audra the display is very nice but your children stole the show. You describe this collection of breads like it was no big deal but I know you worked your buns off. Great job! You are an inspiration.

It was  a fun project. One I encourage most on here to try. Don't just sit around and say, "Oh, it probably wouldn't sell". I think you'd get a nice surprise!

sale. You all really should give this a try. What have you got to loose except a few hours of your time. 1. Your baking anyway. 2. If your like us, the extra money will come in handy, even if you just blow it on more bread cookbooks!
