Halloween Gingerbread House

If anyone remembers, I intended to make a Spooky Gingerbread House to go on top of a cake for our Halloween party. Well, I got carried away and it won't fit. Who cares, the kids like it. I know it shows up a little over the top in the photos, but in person it does not. Don't know why.... Oh well, Happy Halloween Ya'll!

Audra, that is really cute! No such thing as over the top on Halloween :-)

the thing on the front was supposed to be a tower and the other 3 sides fell to the floor and shattered! So I just stuck the poor remaining piece up in front and royal iced it down and went with it. Maybe that was my creative side! LOL! You should have seen Quaids face when it hit the floor! He looked up very still and said "I didn't do it this time...." It was priceless!

We built a humble one last week for little man's school costume party today.  Took us a week to build and 1/2 hour to take the whole thing down.  We had a blast!

and the tower broke about 3 hours before our guest arrived. Oh well, it was still fun and we had a blast doing it. It is fun to see what kind of candies, cereal, and the like you can get to simulate parts on a building! Happy Halloween!

help. But I have learned that the fun is for everyone. Not in my being able to build the perfect house. I am very type A, and it was a hard thing to give in, and let them in, but I'm glad I did. They are becoming very creative. Parenthood is a cool thing isn't it? Thanks, and BTW, and I have seen you do some cool post on here too! Happy Halloween!

p.s. Don't eat too much candy!!! LOL!

You put in so much more efforts into yours; the presentation and all that beautiful colors! I just used store bought crackers and other goodies.  The only thing that I actually made was the RIP tombstones under haunted house (a surprise for the kids)

I had some sourdough bread that had been sitting in the fridge for a week. I figured no one wanted it so I cut them into small pieces and toasted them in the oven to make mini tombstones. That's how I usually get rid of unwanted foods! LOL

Our climate is just the opposite to yours, cold and dry. Knowing it would be very difficult to take down the houses I made the icing very thin. Yet, I still had to use a metal spoon to chisel out the pieces for the kids!

Took us almost a week to construct the whole thing. But seeing the expression on the kids faces made every minute worth it. Happy Halloween to you too.
