Submitted by Erzsebet Gilbert on October 17, 2009 - 11:23pm My bread is bigger than me!O no! Playing in the garden, I learned from the music across the courtyard it was my neighbor Istvan's birthday! What to do to wish him the best...? Bread, because I can't make much else! But something special, so it wouldn't be just another loaf - a secret ingredient absolutely nobody could guess but everybody seemed to like... Vanilla! Since I love the couronne shape and Istvan's got a lot of mouths to share with, I tried a big loaf and kneaded up this: Aaaahhh! Mostly, I thought I would upload this because I found what I ended up with hilarious! But happy birthday, neighbor...

Ha - but it's
Ha - but it's gorgeous!!
First thought: he'll need about five pounds of cream cheese to go with that bagel..
Seriously, you must tell us how he liked it. Vanilla.. hmmm - I love vanilla. Was this a sweet bread? (The reason I ask is that I found a recipe for a local clam shack's fried clams - don't know if it's really authentic, but it included vanilla).
Vanilla without the sweet
Actually, it isn't a sweet bread, really; the recipe I went off of suggested joghurt as a cheater's substitute for sourdough... I thought, well, they make vanilla joghurt... they make vanilla extract... it ended up being just a very subtle flavor, but nice. Thank you!
True - it does look
...like a humongous bagel! :) Very nice!
Let the bread games begin!
A bagel, maybe, but I thought perhaps a Frisbee, too!
Giant vanilla bagel
Looks delicious! What would you recommend to spread on top of a slice of vanilla bread? Strawberry jam sounds pretty good to me?
By the way, you're not in one of those "green rooms" they use for weather forecasts and complicated animations on TV?
Tricky paint
Ha ha! it's just our dining room... you can't tell, but it really does match a painting! Thanks - and actually, when I made it for us I instantly went for strawberry jam!
Does Look Delicious, Erzsebet!
You really did shape it nicely and the vanilla sounds like a perfect ingredient. I bet it was real hit at the party! Great photo too!
Sylvia
thank you...
You're so sweet!
Makes me want to be your
Makes me want to be your neighbor.
Jeff
bread is excellent for the neighbors!
Actually, I'm a terrible neighbor - we all share a courtyard and garden and garbage, and I always forget when it's my turn for Trash Week. But I like to make everybody breads! It's the only gift I can make!
not a green room
but it is a green screen key because i could do this
five stars to you!
You just made me and my husband laugh more than I can type!
Norm, can you shrink her?
Put something in the background to make her bagel size?
Um, yes, ...and make it bread related. :) all n fun ...mini
how about mt everest
the bigest mountain and the worlds bigest bagel
i kind of like this though it looks like she just walked on to a tv set to show the bagel
ps next time get a little more light on the wall and avoid shadows ill be able to get a better key
Tabloids
you know, the tabloids definitely want to know whether the world's biggest bagel was made with the poking or the rope technique. can you tell from the photo, norm?
Shrink me!
Actually, I'm only 5 feet tall, and for a while my husband has contemplated arranging me with a giant Tic Tac box, an oversize joke hat, an oversize wine bottle, clown shoes and a too-big sweater to take an "artistic" photograph! We can add the bread!
this makes you french too!
oui!
Je suis une petit patisserie!
