Bonni Scanatto
Hi everyone,
I'm looking for a recipe for an Italian bread that we used to get back home, it was called Bonni Scanatto (not sure about the spelling). It was a very, almost bleached white loaf, very dense but not heavy, it was a light bread with a very tight, fine texture. Has anyone heard of this bread?

RE: comment from rfedele on sept 25th
I to have had this bread many times Back in Buffalo N.Y. Not sure how it is made but i think a lot of egg whites were used. Can not find where to buy it in the tampa area. Have you had ant response to your query..???
I'm from Buffalo also, Where did you get it in Buffalo? I think we got it from Luigi's. I think it's a Buffalo specialty, nobody else seems to know about it. I've been in Tampa for 25 years and still miss many things from home. I grew up on Balistreri's bread so when I moved away I was forced to make my own.
Where in buffalo??? We had a store on fargo and Massachusetts.. We got bread fromLuigi's, Costanzo's others.. I do think it is a buffalo thing!!!
My grandmother lived at Fargo & Rhode Island, I grew up on Claremont Ave. My wife lived on 7th Street, when we got married we moved to North Buffalo on Homer Avenue. Are you in Tampa?
