Submitted by sphinxie on September 21, 2009 - 4:53pm emails from site won't stopI'm having trouble with the email notifications. I signed up, thinking that I was just signing up to get emails of replies to my last post. Instead I seem to get an email of every single new post. I've clicked on the unsubscribe button on four separate days, and yet every day I keep getting these emails. I even changed my email address associated with my account here, but I'm still getting the emails at the previous email address. I don't see a "contact" anywhere on this site. I'd really appreciate some help, otherwise I will have to cancel my old email account, which is really not ideal.

See the "My account"
Have you gone into the "My account" section under your name (see the left hand side of the screen) and changed the notifications you set up?

um...weird! We dont store that info anywhere other than in the profile page that you access - you're getting emails at the address you have right now listed (only us admin and you can see it) or one you had previously? I'm not seeing anything in your current user profile that would indicate any sort of email notification subscriptions, but even then I'm not sure how it would be emailing an old address.
If it's not even associated with the email you currently have, is it possible you had another account set up here with emails still going to your other email address? Send me a private message (click my username and find the send this user a message link on my profile page) with your other email address and I will ask Floyd later tonight (there's probably a way to look a user up by that info, but I just dont know how to do it offhand)
Hi Sphinxie
Something went haywire with the subscriptions recently. I think I've gotten you off now. Please let me know if not, and forward me (floyd at thefreshloaf dot com) any messages you are still getting and I'll take care of them.
Sorry for the inconvenience!
Notifications
You know....I too seem to get alot of notifications, but my ONLY complaint is that when I start reading them and clicking on the links....all my productivity ceases!!!

I LOVE IT!! Keep those notifications coming!!!!! It is making me a MUCH better baker!!!!!!!

There was a glitch today
There was a glitch today that resulted in multiple messages going out. My apologies to all. I believe it is fixed now (fingers crossed).
Arg. Well, I'm waking up to
Arg. Well, I'm waking up to see I did not successfully fix it last night (as I am sure many of you are too). My apologies. I just tried something else that I hope will clear it up.
Worst case, if I can't fix it in the next hour or two, I'll turn notifications completely off.
My notifications are just fine
I was getting multiple new content ones, but that has ceased, and I get an email for each new post in a thread I posted a reply to, but that is easily dealt with by simply putting them into a separate folder in my email and perusing them at leasure when I want to just play on the net.
But then again, I don't have a tiny email account on a limited server, I can deal with tons of email a day.
It appears to be...
It appears to be emails are on the rise and TFL has an active culture! (Sorry, I just had to say it...)
Giggle snort choke, oops,
Giggle snort choke, oops, swallowed my gum! That was really, really bad, but cute, so I forgive you! ;0
Haven't seen any problem
I'm confused by this post. Perhaps it's because I use a different OS than most people (Linux), but I haven't seen any difference in the number of emails I receive. If anything, I'm surprised by the lack of emails from posts I'm subscribed to.
Billybob
Check the dates.This is a
Check the dates. This is a very old thread. The only recent post was replying to a 2 year old post.
That's why you are not having a problem.
I wish the dates were more prominently displayed, happens to me too.
So how does it wind up in recent post email?
I'm guilty of not checking the dates of the post, but I wonder how it wound up on the "recent posts" email...Seems there should be some fact checking going on...
I have been getting the same
I have been getting the same thing ... when I post a reply to a thread I get an E-Mail on every single post afterward .... to say the least it's fricking annoying as he!!
I know that this is an "older" post so is this a setting that I missed in setting up my profile/account or something?
I'm not sure.I thought I had
I'm not sure.I thought I had everything turned off,but I'm getting the same thing.Going to check my profile now...
when you get the email
notifications you get a clickable link to the thread, (or at least I do) and the link has a number in it for instance this one is 13673 its in the middle of all the info about the thread, and right now the new posts are in the 22000 range, so I simply clikc past any that don't have a new number and only open threads that have the newer numbers, or ones I know I am following, like the ones on San Francisco Miche or whatever.
Its picking this thread up and putting it on top of the list, because it probably was a recent post to the thread, and it goes from most recent to later posts in the threads, if no one clicked on and posted in the older threads it wouldn't pick them up.
Logic is only as good as the computer is programmed, and its programmed to pick up the recent posts, within a parameter like, last 12 hours, last 36 hours or whatever. I sometimes get 2 new content notices in one day, one from overnight, and another later in the day.
If you don't want to see emeails from this thread (or any other)
If you're reading this in an email, look above the post and notice the link to ubsubscribe. You can do this with any post you reply to after you get the first email, unless you really want to hear what others have to say.
I must confess that I was tempted to do that for this thread, but find it amusing to hear people gripe about something so trivial. I'm a power user when it comes to computers and always get a kick out of stuff like this.
And yes, I love to bake bread, too...
Billybob
So when I turn off ALL
So when I turn off ALL notifications in my preferences and still get emails it's griping about something trivial?
I thought
I don't want any notifications"
meant
"I don't want any notifications"
I guess we are going to get at least one notification on any thread we post on,wether we want it or not,is that it?
Seems rather odd.
hi, I haven't been on here
hi, I haven't been on here for over a year, (I think) and even logged out, but started getting emails in the last week or so, doesn't really matter, I just delete them but I did look into my account and can't find anywhere to unsubscribe, but it has only happened in the last week or so - i just thought it strange
and yes I do still do my own bread :)
just gone looking again, and all the disabled boxes are ticked
obviously just a glitch somewhere
Emails
Just do a filter and put them in trash or what ever if you do not want any more from a site.
Works for me or I would be looking at 50 + emails aday all scam or what ever.
